In this article I highlight four players that I am looking forward to seeing compete throughout the weekend. Each prospect is someone that I’ve seen or heard great things about in the past.
Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
Maddie Vickery should be competing with her 2027 Missouri Phenom EYBL team this weekend in the 16U division of the Kansas City Clash and I can’t wait to see the type of weekend she puts together. Vickery has been sensational this past two years on the hardwood. She has been a prospect that has demonstrated great leadership, demeanor, and skill every time she takes the floor, no matter what team she is lacing up with. If she is competing at her full potential then I’m sure we are going to be in for quite a treat. She is a versatile playmaker, already standing at 6’0-6’1, while being agile in any movement she makes. If her team is clicking at full capacity, they should have a weekend to remember but we will just have to wait and see.
Highlights
I’ve seen a lot of video and heard a lot of great things about McKenzie Mathurin up until this point but i’m excited to be able to cover it and see it first-hand for myself over the next few days. Mathurin is a Nebraska Cornhuskers commit and a real hooper. She is someone that lives in the gym and she is dedicated to this sport more than most. Not to undermine anyone else but I would be shocked if she isn’t one of the best prospects on the floor at Hyvee Arena this weekend. From what I know she has a quick handle, she can score in bunches, and she works relentlessly on the defensive side of the basketball. She understands situational basketball to a T and that is something that you can’t teach at a certain point as a coach. This is another player that if she plays to her full ability, she is going to be lighting it up at a high rate from all over the floor at this event and that will be fun to watch.
When I first saw Lucy Fierro Lucy Fierro 5’4″ | PG Westview | 2026 NE compete this past high school season and leading into it, there was one specific thing that stood out about her game. That is she may be a smaller Guard but she has a big heart and that shines through almost every time she is competing out there. I would best describe her play-style as selfless but efficient. She has the ability to shoot the leather off of the basketball and that is just the tip of the iceberg on the offensive end. She can also create off of the dribble and find open teammate consistently, while being a dawg on defense leading to a ton of transition buckets moving down the floor. She is going to be competing up an age level but that doesn’t surprise me. She holds her own every time she laces up her kicks and I’m expecting more of the same of that over these next few days.
Last year around this time was when I first had the chance to see Khloe Nicholson compete and she stood out almost immediately. She had size, a smooth game, and a smart head on her shoulders to make great choices with the ball in her hands. Not to mention, that she was tearing it up on the offensive side of the court with her shifty handle and ability to get to the hoop almost at Will. This weekend I will be seeing her compete once again with her Missouri Phenom 2027 EYBL team and I can’t wait. It seems that over the past season she has only gotten better. She may only be an 8th grader on this Freshman team but she holds her own. Since seeing her last year she has received a few D1 offers and that interest is only going to grow over her high school career. Once she actually gets into high school. I’m not sure where she falls in the pecking order of her own team but if she is anything like I saw last season on the road, she is going to give us a show. Plain and Simple. That’s the easiest way to put it.
