There are so many youngsters playing basketball at a high level now, it’s insane the skills sets they are developing. From attack the rim, knocking down 3 balls, some of these girls look wiser beyond their age. Here on the PGH Circuit, we have gotten a little taste of some young ladies who are hooping above their age level. Now, don’t get me wrong, the state has a few throughout who are showing out. For this article, this is about the ones who hooped at the Music City Showdown.
Check out these young hoopers who showed up and showed out in the Music City. Crazy thing is, they are just in middle school. These young hoopers are knocking on the high school door and ready to bust the competition wide open. So knock knock. Tennessee is about to be infused with a youth movement over the next couple of years. Here are some standouts from the Music City Showdown.
Lauren Hassell (6’3/F/7th Grader/Clarksville Christian/ TN Sol)– The future Miss Tennessee basketball. This girl is a big deal and not just in stature. Humbled and hungry, she plays the game to dominate her opponent. Can handle the ball, starting her own transition breaks. Anchors the paint, whether it’s scoring buckets on the interior or defending it defensively. Can step out and shoot the 3 ball to go along with her nice mid-range J. Been competing against high level competition for some years now. Just keeps getting better every time she steps on the court. Great kid with a high ceiling.
Anna Williams (6’1/C/8th Grader/ Brentwood Middle/ Stars Basketball Club)- Dominates the interiors. Incredible instincts that allow her to position herself for offensive rebounds. With the ball in her hands, she can unleash back to the basket moves, face up moves, and shoot the mid-range. Controls the paint defensively, blocking shots and grabbing boards. Not a finished product, she has so much room to grow. She will be such a standout at the rate she is going now.
Bella Shephard (5’5/G/8th Grader/Lipscomb Academy/ Stars Basketball Club)– Wisdom. Floor general. Poise. Just a few words to describe her composure with the ball in her hands. Heady player who can distribute the ball, score it consistently from all 3 levels, and play lockdown defense against opponents. High energy kid who is relentless. Polished like a Chris Paul, she may be young, but orchestrating her team’s attack is a mastery of hers. Great kid with a huge upside.
Jonna Mosses (5’5/ G/ 8th Grader/ Tellico Plains Jr. High/ Team Ambition)– Hard working kid who has a sweet stroke from beyond the arc. Jonna plays at a high level on both ends of the floor. Consistent scoring threat no matter where she is on the court. Instinctive kid who loves the game and plays it with a passion. Has great hands and quick feet that she unleashes to create turnovers on the defensive end. Don’t let the size fool you, she is going to be a problem in high school.
Lamiyah Jarrett (5’7/CG/7th Grader/ Tellico Plains Jr. High/ Team Ambition)- Tough. Super tough kid who plays the game with relentless energy. Can score the rock from multiple levels of the floor. Uses her shiftiness to attack gaps and finish against contact. Anticipates well, creating havoc by poking balls loose and jumping passing lanes. Tremendous upside who is crazy with the ball in her hands. Super talented and has such a high ceiling in this game. Keep an eye on her as she starts to create a name for herself.
