Peach Games Day 2: 17U Backcourt Standouts Pt. 1
2024 5-6 PG [player_tooltip player_id="335865" first="Michaela" last="Bogans"] – D. Shine Lady Grinders – Cross Creek
Get your popcorn ready when you sit and watch [player_tooltip player_id="335865" first="Michaela" last="Bogans"]. The pint-sized point guard is a dynamo, scoring in bunches with her electric creativity and elite shot making. Bogans is elusive to try and corral with her blinding speed and tight handle. She scores off the dribble with step-back threes and can get into the lane in a blink to get to her floater. Michaela draws a slew of fouls as she splits traps and takes the ball into the teeth of the defense. While she piles in points in bunches, she can be a bit streaky, but with a heavy scoring burden on her shoulders and just six players on the team, it’s nothing out of the ordinary. Bogans grades out as a D-I playmaker for me. Surround her with shooters and other versatile scoring threats and she will have field day picking apart defenses with her passing. In a 58-55 win, her opponent ran double teams at her nearly the entire game to get the ball out of her hands. Bogans still finished with 20 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals.
2023 5-7 G [player_tooltip player_id="238220" first="Sharon" last="Tolliver"] – Team Huncho Nxt-Gen – South Forsyth
Playing alongside slick playmaking guards that draw attention, [player_tooltip player_id="238220" first="Sharon" last="Tolliver"] is the perfect fit at Team Huncho with her perimeter jump shot. Tolliver caught fire against FBC Legacy USA, dropping 22 points and 8 rebounds while sinking 3 threes. Tolliver had it all working, slashing to the lane and hitting from the mid-range. She’s a very good floor stretcher and one of the better pure shooters in the state.
2024 6-1 G [player_tooltip player_id="196117" first="Erin" last="Rodgers"] – Team Huncho Nxt-Gen – Grayson
High Major programs are on the door step for [player_tooltip player_id="196117" first="Erin" last="Rodgers"]. She finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds, serving as a graceful slasher that routinely finished through contact. Rodgers has a smooth glide to the basket where she finishes with finger rolls or floaters. When she attacked the left side of the rim, she did a good job of playing the angles and kissing her shots off the glass through traffic. Rodgers’ length and versatility give her a high ceiling at the next level. She’s adept and long-arming rebounds and keeping the ball high on putbacks. Rodgers is continuing to trend upwards.
2022 5-5 PG D’yanna Maxey – FBC Legacy USA – Douglass
One of the best available point guards in Georgia’s 2022 class will be a late boon for whichever college program lands her. Maxey is a compact guard that makes plays off the dribble both as a scorer and distributor. She’s strong and quick, using a sharp crossover to get into the lane. Maxey does a good job seeking contact and drawing fouls. She’s a competitive on-ball defender and sees the floor well when running the offense. She tallied 10 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 steals and 1 block vs. Team Huncho.
2024 5-8 G [player_tooltip player_id="302973" first="Riley" last="Black"] – DL Impact – Chestatee
Consistency and production are forcing [player_tooltip player_id="302973" first="Riley" last="Black"] into the discussion as one of North Georgia’s best players. Black, recently named Gainesville Times Player of the Year, continues to get better as a lead guard. She has developed from a bully ball wing into a playmaking ball handler that can still overpower opponents. Black’s nose for the ball and high motor always put her in the right place. She rebounds like a power forward, outmuscling bigger opponents. In transition Black loves to weave through the defense and get to the rim like a heat seeking missile. Keeping her head up and limiting turnovers will come with more reps. She has major upside as a drive-and-kick distributor. On Saturday she really impressed with her ability to get downhill and find the open man on the opposite block. Riley poured in 20 points, 15 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals in a 48-42 win. She’s a for-sure D-II prospect that has time to climb even higher up recruiting boards if she continues to improve like she did from Year 1 to Year 2.
