This weekend is one of the last Triumph Region events in the PGH Circuit. Over the course of Saturday/Sunday at Mainland HS, I’ll be watching teams from the Southeast compete in the Southeast Slam. Here are my Day 1 Standouts:
[player_tooltip player_id="429793" first="Olivia" last="Olson"] | DME | 2025
[player_tooltip player_id="429793" first="Olivia" last="Olson"] was the best player I saw on Saturday. She moved well without the ball and crashed the boards hard. Her offensive game is outstanding as she put up nearly 30 points in the game I saw. She’s not afraid to let it fly and can put points up in a hurry. Olivia has a nice in-and-out dribble and tremendous length to score against any defender.
[player_tooltip player_id="331713" first="Nia" last="Blocton"] | MHD Elite | 2024
Nia has really good size and a strong frame for a post player going into her Upperclassmen years. Her footwork was very good down low, and she also has the ability to bring the ball up the floor by using her body to protect her dribble. Her height and strength were too much for everyone on Saturday.
[player_tooltip player_id="331750" first="Karimah" last="Nix"] | Grindhouse Elite Club | 2022
Karimah is an unsigned 2022 who continues to show up and show out at our events. She’s tall, long, and knows the game well. Her altheticism and length make her hard to defend. Karimah has good energy on both sides of the ball and swats away a lot of shots on the defensive end.
[player_tooltip player_id="248886" first="Janiya" last="Johnson"] | DME | 2023
Janiya is a really long, smooth operator. She had almost 30 points in her second game as she has a quick first step to get to the rim, but she can also hit the outside shot. She’s an athletic guard that defends well and her length makes her play bigger than her height lists her.
[player_tooltip player_id="171803" first="Tamya" last="Hutchinson"] | H2 Lowco | 2024
Tamya is a high motor player who likes to attack the basket. She had some creative and tough finishes at the rim on Saturday. The most impressive part of her game was her ability to rebound as a smaller guard. The 2024 guard from SC can really elevate in a hurry and outjump post players to snag a tough board.
[player_tooltip player_id="331748" first="Geriya" last="Grady"] | Grindhouse Elite Club | 2023
Geriya always brings good energy and communication to her team. She sees the floor well, plays unselfish, and is a crafty scorer and distributor. Her motor is always going as she never takes a play off on either end of the court. She’s a smart player who controls the pace on offense and defends hard.
