Here are some of the standouts from both days at the Houston Summer Slam

DAMIA FREEMAN

Damia Freeman (Urban Heroes Ross)
Freeman was overly impressive because I enjoyed watching her energy, on both ends of the court, yet the pull-up jumper was real, and so was her playing the passing lane as well as baseline to baseline "on the ball defense" yet her hands are quick, she came up with steals and created turnovers
Samantha Fields (Texas Elite Hogg)
Fields of dreams as she created nightmares on both ends, starting with an explosive first step to get to the basket and finish and the heat she showed on the flip applying pressure on the defensive end. She also showed the jumper, mid to long-range, and saw the floor very well
Jaira Fletcher (Texas Elite Hogg)
Fletcher was definitely a force to be reckoned with inside the paint not only for her powerful finishes inside the paint but her desire to go after everything off the rim. She scored around the rim facing the basket, she also defended both inside the paint as well as stepping outside of it to apply pressure
[player_tooltip player_id='882891' first='Destiny' last='Lewis'] (Houston United Carr) 2025
Lewis has my mother's surname so I was pleased to catch her going completely off on both ends, yes, she's long and athletic with an electrifying first step but her playing the passing lane and handling the ball in the open court was very nice. She has very nice court vision and can shoot the ball, well she also can "catch and shoot" the ball, mid to long-range

JACELYN SCHMIDT

Jamie Solomon (Houston United Carr) 2026
Solomon's mines were supposedly filled with copper so it's fitting that her energy was like that copper-top battery as she just never takes a play off. I lobe the progression from last season, she is high school ready because she's athletic and handles the ball under pressure yet she also showed she could create her shot and drop it, from DEEP
[player_tooltip player_id='842785' first='Sydney' last='Thomas'] (Texas Flight Elite) 2026
Thomas caught my eye as I realized it was her when I saw her sister on the bench and yes, she is going to be in the mix for Top 2026 in Texas. She's poised under pressure, she's playing up and nothing seems to bother her including the hard picks she ran into or the hard licks she took attacking the basket, yes she finishes after contact but she also does a good job creating her shot as well as applying pressure on defense
Jacelyn Schmidt (Texas Truth Future) 2027
Schmidt's grandfather happened to be standing by me so I was fortunate enough to get her name and after watching her for a couple of minutes, I knew it would come in handy. She's long and athletic with plenty of upside. She hustles for rebounds as well as loose balls, she handles the ball under pressure in the open court, she showed the midrange as well as scores off the dribble and she did a good job rebounding on both ends.
