The event was held from June 4-5 and featured some of the top talent in Southern California. I was able to attend the event on Saturday, June 4 at the Grand Terrace location. Here’s a quick look at some of the top standouts I saw.
1. Nene Ndiaye – Orangewood Academy 2023
Ndiaye stood out as a really intriguing frontcourt prospect. She was a very efficient scorer in the paint in the games I saw. She has very good footwork and can hit defenders with a little turnaround jumper in the paint. She also has a little hook shot. Good offensive rebounder; able to get put-backs. Runs the floor well and fills the lanes. A long defender who does a good job contesting shots.
2, Ashley Chea Ashley Chea 5'6" | PG Flintridge Prep HS | 2023 State CA – Flintridge Prep 2023
Chea has been one of the top guards in her class for a while now and her talent was on full display. She’s able to play both guard positions, but she’s a natural point guard with good playmaking skills. A very good ball-handler who can dribble under defensive pressure and only needs a couple of dribbles to get to her spots on the court. She’s always been a pass first player who finds open teammates on the break or in the halfcourt. Able to hit defenders with a 1-2 dribble pull-up in the midrange. Consistent shooter from three too.
3. Neveah Mageo – Oceanside 2023
Mageo stood out as one of the top shooters at the event. A lot of her points came from off-ball opportunities. She does a good job moving without the ball and getting herself open from three-point range. Good catch and shoot player. Relocates well after making the pass. She can put the ball on the floor if the defense runs her off the three-point line. A good on-ball defender who slides her feet well and keeps up with the ball-handler.
4. Chasity Muradzikwa – Cal Storm Taurasi 15U
Muradzikwa was a small point guard, but her size was certainly not an issue. She can handle the ball against defensive pressure and against bigger defenders. A very good ball-handler who can get past her defender without a screen and get to the rim. She’s able to finish at the rim over bigger defenders. Good passer in the halfcourt. Defensively, she picks up fullcourt and pressures the ball-handler well. Ties up ball-handler and forces them to pick up their dribble.
