There’s still so many different teams to talk about, but let’s finish up talking about Team Red for the 2023 and 2024 prospects.
Chloe Escanillas – Rutgers Prep (2024)
Escanillas made some massive strides in her sophomore year with Prep, really taking advantage of the increased playing time she had on the floor. She’s a 3&D player, a great perimeter shooter and defender wrapped up into one and she does her job to perfection. Playing in a program like Rutgers Prep, the spotlight is always going to be on her and on this team, so she’s got plenty of experience playing in big games and big situations already. She’s been more than up to the task and the challenge.
Rhian Stokes – Ewing (2024)
Stokes is a delight to watch at the guard position for Ewing and might be the best of the three-headed monster in that program right now. She’s the best forward currently on the team and has one of the best pure scoring mindsets in North Jersey. When Stokes has the ball, she’s going to find a way to score, no matter the situation. Stokes plays as a leader and leads by example. She’s shown great maturity already as an underclassman and looks to continue that as a junior.
Ashley Sofilkanich – St. John Vianney (2023)
The headlines for SJV over the past two years have been dominated by Madison St. Rose and Zoe Brooks, but there are a number of Lady Lancers who deserve much more press. Sofilkanich is one of those and is one of the most intriguing prospects in the 2023 class based on her raw potential. You can’t teach size and she stands at 6-3, commanding the post well. She’s excelled as a shot-blocker and can score well inside. However, the more she gets her feet under her, the more confident she’ll be across the board.
Matti Chiera – Colonia (2023)
Teammates with Taylor Derkack, Chiera is her equal and then some as a guard for Colonia and the two have really blossomed together on the floor. She’s an incredible shooter, an efficient shooter, someone with pin-point accuracy on offense. Chiera is not missing her shot on an open look and will knock down any basket with an opponent in her face. Additionally, you might not see a combo of shooting and defense better than what Chiera can provide. That’s exactly what Colonia is looking for from her as a senior.
