It’s arguably the best summer league in New Jersey, which means we’ll be seeing top-tier talent, top-tier programs and highly-anticipated matchups. Here’s another quick look at some prospects to keep an eye on in Elizabeth.
Mackenzie Anderson – C/PF, Rutgers Prep (2024)
Anderson is one of a few forwards that Prep will be relying upon this season, and her role has grown significantly over the past year. Her best performance came as a sophomore, showing signs of dominance from a low post perspective. However, she was seen most off the bench. With a loaded roster expected once again for the Argonauts, Anderson will be fighting for a starting spot. The opportunity is there for the taking and a fantastic summer will secure it.
Shawnae Biggs – PG/SG, Ewing (2024)
Ewing has depth coming into this season and Biggs is part of a rising junior class that has really taken over the reins of the program. Based on roster movement, it’s expected that Biggs will either be a starter or a sixth man off the bench, and she’s really stepped up in a number of categories. She’s a facilitator, a selfless player who’s going to dish the ball off to create more scoring opportunities. Her defense is among the best returning within the roster and her rebounding is excellent for a guard. If Biggs can get more of an offensive game working, she’s going to be electric to watch.
Erin Frazier – 6-0 PF/C, Teaneck (2024)
Teaneck has quite the forward combo between Frazier and Demi Simpson Demi Simpson 6'0" | PF Teaneck | 2024 State NJ as the two combined to average over two blocks a game in the winter/spring. Bigs are important in the women’s game and having a reliable forward down low has worked wonders for this program. She’s progressing as expected right now, easing her way into that starting role while working on positioning, boxing out, shot-blocking and general court awareness. Big things are coming for Frazier this winter, big things.
Alyssa Cueto – 5-5 PG/SG, Union City (2024)
Union City is going to be reeling off the loss of senior forward Jaylyn Orefice Jaylyn Orefice 5'9" | SF Union City | 2024 State NJ , who graduated this spring. That’s roughly a quarter of production gone, which means players like Cueto are going to be asked to step up and produce more. She wasn’t relied upon as much on the offensive end as a scorer, rather a facilitator, which she shined in that role. Additionally, her rebounding and defense both jump out when watching her play. Cueto prides herself on that side of the ball, and she’ll need to transition that into more offense come the winter.
Ella Saxton – 5-9 F/G, Ramapo (2024)
Ramapo lost its three best scorers heading into this season as those three all graduated in the spring. Roughly 75 percent of last year’s production is gone, but Saxton is part of a younger core that’s being thrusted into an elevated role for this season. Her contributions came mostly off the bench or in limited starting minutes, but her breakout should be on its way this season. Her height makes her versatile and her defense right now leaves a lot to be desired. There’s plenty of raw talent in Saxton, and more minutes this season will unlock that potential.
