As we’ve talked about a number of times, the AAU season and summer are coming to an end. Final tournaments are incoming or have already concluded, so let’s go to the film to see who’s stood out in New Jersey.
Simone Pintalli – 5-5 G, Notre Dame (2024, NJ Rise)
Pintalli will be getting plenty of looks moving forward as a guard who can shoot and who’s aggressive on the floor. While a shorter guard, she’s able to separate and shoot or drive and score in the lane. She really goes all-out on the defensive end and will fight and battle for rebounds, loose balls or deflected passes. Pintalli gets her teammates involved a lot, a really great facilitator, and her poise on the court makes her quite the prospect.
Kaci Mikulski Kaci Mikulski 5'8" | CG Wildwood Catholic Academy | 2024 State NJ – PG, Wildwood Catholic (2024, NJ Shoreshots)
Mikulski and Shoreshots were up in Connecticut for the Hoop Group Live in New England event and she showed out like the budding star we saw as a sophomore. With her, you’re looking at one of the best pure scorers in the state, one of the best three-point shooters in the state and one of the best foul shooters as well. She’s slowly but surely been able to round out her game with stellar defense, great passing and a presence on the glass. When she’s on, she’s in the conversation to be a top-30 or even top-20 player in the state.
Zahra Alexander Zahra Alexander 5'9" | PG Rutgers Prep | 2024 State NJ – PG/SG, Rutgers Prep (2024, Jersey Gemz)
There is not nearly enough of an emphasis on defense in today’s basketball, but Alexander made her presence felt at the end of a wild game this week for the Gemz. The way she was able to swarm her opponent as they were on the defensive, trying to get out of the backcourt, showed energy, aggression and great defense. She had the quick thinking too to get the ball immediately out of her hands to teammate Camryn Gardner, who made the game-winning basket.
Eli Clark – PG/SG Ocean Township (2024, NJ Shoreshots)
Clark has put herself in the college conversation over the past year and her AAU season this summer is an indication of the improvements she’s made across the board. Let’s begin with her shooting, a player who’s known to knock down threes at an efficient rate. Clark is an efficient shooter, an effective shooter and a selfless shooter. Why selfless? She’s more than willing to pass up a look if it’s not the right look to get a teammate open for a scoring opportunity. Let’s not forget that lockdown defense at the top of the key either.
