I may be biased with my North Carolinians, but these athletes from the hoop state were certainly fun to watch.
Hannah Moss (2026) was showing off her handles getting around her opponents with ease and rolling the ball into the hoop. She showed no signs of weakness with either hand being able to move any direction. She was a force on defense shutting down a known shooter and grabbing steals to take the other direction. She hustles up and down the court grabbing rebounds on fast breaks making sure her opponents don’t have another chance to score.
Mackenzie Ortscheid (2026) clogs the paint on defense blocking shots and being a big obstacle for people to try to get around. She was showing off post moves like up and unders and power dribbles to get her some points even battling through contact to score. She had a nice jab step move spinning to the basket in the paint.
Jaiden Thompson (2026) handles the ball well, and she could find her open teammate underneath the basket. She was battling in the paint for some points even scoring after losing her shoe. She used her length to jump into passing lanes grabbing steals. Her hands were everywhere on defense blocking shots with force.
Brooke Busby Brooke Busby 5'8" | PG Cannon | 2027 State NC (2027, featured photo) knows how to make shots from anywhere on the court, and she moves well without the ball to find the open spots even cutting underneath the basket. She is sneaky using crossovers to get her opponents away from her to score some points. Her behind the back dribble is smooth. She also does well finding her teammates cutting up the court to the basket.
Madison Drayton Madison Drayton 5'11" | CG Cannon School | 2027 State NC (2027) seems to have a nose for the ball finding ways to grab rebounds with ease getting inside and making sure people don’t box her out. She ran the floor well finding ways to grab steals and immediately find her teammates run up the court or be ready for a pass in transition. She was constantly going hard on the court going after loose balls even showing off her ability to block shots. She powers through on the baseline maneuvering her body to score some points.
Marissa Mitchell (2027) showed off some power dribbles to get to the hoop. She had a crossover move getting her defender off of her. She also had some nice side steps to get around her opponents and score some points.
Amayah Barnes (2027) stroked it from deep. She had some strong takes to the basket, and she had a nice pass up the court threading the needle on a fast break. It seemed to be her grabbing steals on repeat jumping into passing lanes flying out of nowhere at times.
Arianna Shaw (2027) made her way to the paint and put up her floater. She made her opponents pay when they brought the ball down knocking it away from their possession.
Justice Alexander (2028) showed off some nice ball handling pushing the ball into the paint and putting it through the hoop. With her back to the basket, she caught entry passes and immediately turned to find the basket and score. She was making it easy for her teammates to get her the pass. She has a pretty shot, too, showing that she can score from all over the court including behind the arc.
Zoey Goodman (2029)may not have been the tallest player on the court, but she sure knew how to block shots. She was always present on fast breaks being ready for a pass to score some points whether she was laying it in or shooting her jumper.
