The Class of 2023 as a whole has been quick to either narrow down their lists of colleges, or even choose their Fall of 2023 destinations. A lot of this can be attributed to a group of prospects and parents who has seen the aftermath of COVID-19, the additional fifth year for college players, and the effects the transfer portal has caused throughout all of college basketball, not just the NCAA Division-1 level. This is the second of several articles I will be writing pointing out some of the state’s uncommitted prospects in the 2023 class. If you see someone below you believe has already made their college decision, please let us know so we can continue to update these reports. The following ladies are listed as point guards in our current 2023 rankings, all fall between #26 and #100, and all are uncommitted to the best of our knowledge.
Sanaa does a lot of nice things you want out of your point guard position. She is strong for her size, she can be physical when necessary, and she has good quickness. She has a solid handle, she takes care of the ball, and she’s a willing and capable distributor (Sanaa has already posted 355 assists in her career). She can knock down open shots consistently, she makes her free throws, but she also gets into the lane and puts pressure on defenses. At the other end, she is an active, quick-handed on-ball defender.
Isabella is a tough-nosed, gritty, hard-working prospect who has continually improved as she has aged and gained strength. As a Sophomore, she averaged around 6 FTAs per game and shot 72% from the line. As a Junior, she averaged 9.5 FTAs and shot 84%. That in itself accounted for a 3.5 ppg jump in her scoring average. She’s also getting to the basket and finishing better, plus she’s shooting it more consistently outside. I’ve also always enjoyed her tenacity defensively, and her overall competitive fire.
I wrote about Ella just the other day, so I’ll somewhat reiterate those thoughts. Ella was really good throughout July. She is a tough-nosed, feisty kid, she can knock down shots with range, plus she is doing a nice job of taking care of the basketball and creating opportunities for her teammates. She is quick/fast and shifty, and while she’s been primarily known as a shooter in the past, her playmaking ability is starting to show through as well. If I’m a small college looking for an offensive-minded playmaker, look no further.
Molly has a great deal of experience, having played key minutes for Homestead the past couple of seasons. She is a fairly strong, skillful guard who does a nice job of taking care of the basketball. She is able to run their offense with precision, she gets it where it needs to go on time/on target, and she is a very good perimeter shooter who can hurt defenses that help off of her. Her all-around basketball IQ and feel for the game are key, plus she plays with a nice motor at both ends of the floor.
Those local to Valparaiso have known what Kristin is about, but she had a great Summer and really put herself on the map from a recruiting standpoint. She is long, wiry-strong, and a really nice athlete with some bounce. She has some creativity in her game, and she can make tough passes look easy. She’s good at getting into the paint and finishing in a variety of ways, but she also has some touch from the perimeter. I really think she’s a kid who is still overlooked, so she could be a nice “sleeper” for some college.
Gracie is a tough-nosed, feisty, all-energy type of guard. She is strong for her size, but she’s also quick laterally and fast North/South. She is a distance runner as well, so she can go all day. She plays the position with her head up, and she pushes the ball and gets her team in their offensive immediately. She can get downhill and attack the basket, she can pull up in the mid-range, and she can knock down the occasional 3-pointer. I also like her competitive fire defensively, as she bothers opposing ball-handlers.
