Last Friday, September 23rd, we released the Fall rankings update for the Class of 2024. There were a handful of new additions, a lot of players who raised their “stock”, so to speak, so subsequently a lot of movement throughout the list. I wanted to take this time to circle back and address all of the ranked prospects, position by position. Below is a look at 37 shooting guard prospects who make up 21.1% of the rankings this time around, with analysis on a handful to “keep an eye on” detailed at the bottom.
KEEP AN EYE ON:
Lauren is one of the more under-the-radar prospects in this 2024 class, and I think a number of Midwestern colleges would thoroughly enjoy having her onboard in a couple of years. She is a constant-motor kid who is a nice athlete in most directions, and she plays with as much toughness as anyone in this 2024 class. She can score the ball at all three levels consistently, and she’s a tenacious defender. She looked a bit leaner and more explosive this Spring and Summer, so I’d expect another big Winter out of her in 2022-2023.
Highlights
Samiyah is a tremendously athletic prospect, she has a natural feel for the game, and she’s able to simply make plays other girls just can’t. She has an athletically strong, wiry frame, she can run and jump with the best of them, and she changes directions very well. She is a downhill attacker who can get to the basket and finish or find open teammates in positions to score. When she’s engaged at the defensive end of the floor, I feel like she can guard nearly anyone 84-feet. As she continues to make her jumper more consistent, watch out.
Highlights
With a lot of uncertainty in Carmel’s lineup due to graduation losses, etc., Keaton could find herself as a valuable piece to their puzzle this Winter. She is a fairly strong, athletic kid who plays with an outstanding motor. She is well-rounded skillfully, she can handle it a little, even initiate the offense, if necessary, plus she’s strong to the rim and can knock down the open rhythm jumper consistently. She defends hard, but she could definitely stand to defend the ball a little better laterally. She always finds ways to help the team, though.
Highlights
If you had to choose one word to describe Carrie, it would be ‘solid’. She is a quietly tough-nosed, hard-working, skillful guard who always finds ways to contribute. She has grown a couple of inches and gotten noticeably stronger throughout high school, and she continues to consistently develop her skillset. She has really nice length, she’s a solid athlete in most directions, and she can really shoot the basketball. She needs very little time or space to get it away, plus she can shoot it with range. She also defends/rebounds with effort.
Creedance is another one of those well-rounded wing prospects who isn’t necessarily elite at any one thing, but she’s very good at most things and can contribute differently each game, depending on what’s needed. She has a solid handle, she’s a capable perimeter shooter when in rhythm, plus she plays with a really nice motor. She also has a wiry-strong frame and is a fairly fluid/smooth athlete in most directions. I also like Creedance’s versatility defensively, being able to take on most ‘2s’ and ‘3s’, plus she’ll rebound.
Emani was a new name to me over the Summer, and I’m still getting to know her game. She has a very long, wiry-strong, athletic frame, and she moves well in most directions. She can handle it a little, though she still needs to use her non-dominant hand more, but she can push in transition, make plays for others, or attack the basket and finish with a variety of runners/floaters. She has touch to a couple of feet behind the 3-point line, and she can go on scoring runs by herself. I also think she can become a high-level defender.
