Friday, we posted our Fall update for the Class of 2024 rankings. There was significant movement by a number of ladies, with some making major jumps up the list because of their improved play and recruiting status. Below is a look at five of those prospects. All have improved their recruiting “stock” through either enhancing their skill, growing and gaining strength, or just figuring out how to be that much more productive on a game-by-game basis.
Ava has continued to grow her game a great deal over the past couple of years. She has nice size, wiry strength, and really good length. She’s a fairly fluid athlete who can run the floor well and change directions. She is definitely capable of playing inside, battling on the boards, and providing a nice defensive presence from the “help-side”, but offensively she’s more of a perimeter forward. She has great touch and a fairly quick release, and she had big games over the Summer where she ripped off multiple 3-pointers in a row.
Morgan is a kid who has continued to grow and develop her game year to year. Now, at 5-11, she has a really nice, wiry-strong frame, and she can cause matchup problems for opponents around the perimeter. She has a solid handle and can create space, and she continues to be an effective perimeter shooter, adding more consistency and depth to her shot. I like her as either a point forward type or someone you can run off of screens, but she is a nice offensive weapon. A little more lateral quickness could really help.
Tia stands out from the moment you begin watching Snider practice/play. She has a long, athletic frame, she has nice speed and some quickness, plus she’s bouncy. She just has some athletic tools other girls don’t have. She has gotten noticeably stronger over the years, and her game continues to add consistency. She’s still probably more effective as a rebounder/shot-blocker, but she’ll occasionally make a “wow” play offensively, where she makes a post-move and just out-jumps her opponent to the rim before they can respond.
Jacelyn was impressive at the PGH Indiana Top-250 Expo back on September 10th. She is a really nice athlete, with speed, quickness, length, and some strength as well. I’ve seen her several times in the past and considered her more of a “shooter”, but she has transitioned into being a multilevel scorer who can also create for others. Her ability to handle the ball and make plays really opens up her perimeter game, making her incredibly tough to defend. Speaking of defense, she uses her length and athleticism well at that end, too.
Sara is another prospect who stood out at the PGH Indiana Top-250 Expo, but more so because it was the first time I was able to see her at such length. She is one of those players who is kind of “sneaky” productive. She has broad shoulders, a fairly strong frame, and she plays with physicality. She understands leverage and positioning, but she’s also deceptively bouncy for her position/size. Add her nice wingspan to that, and she can grab rebounds over opposing players. Sara also plays with an outstanding motor.
