A great shooter is always one step a head of the play, so they are ready to shoot when the ball swings to them. A great shooter gets their feet set as the ball is in the air and has their hands ready. One thing about a great shooter is that they will always continue to shoot the ball regardless if it goes in or not because they know that eventually the ball is going to go into the hoop. Some of the best shooters in the game are able to make minor adjustments to their shots during game time. These girls can all let it fly from beyond the arc and it showed on Sunday.
Landis Williamson-Andrews Landis Williamson-Andrews 5'7" | CG Two Rivers | 2026 State MN – Eastview
The 5’6 combo guard was hot all day from the three-point line. She can shoot the ball in many ways, whether it be a step back or off the bounce. She can also come off the screen, get her feet set and catch and shoot. She reads the defense well which helps her decide what kind of shot she wants to put up. One girl was guarding her tight so she put the step back on her and hit one in her face. I also saw her use a handful of moves to create space so she could get her shot off. She has the potential to be one of the best shooters in the state by the time she is a senior.
Clara Goodman Clara Goodman 5'4" | SG Eastview | 2026 State MN – Eastview
Luckily for Eastview, they have two really great freshman shooters coming up. Like her teammate Willamson-Andrews, Goodman can also shoot the rock at a high clip. The 5’2 shooting guard has a pretty release and gets plenty of spin on the ball. With her size she has figured out how to effectively shoot it over taller defenders. She does that by shooting the ball with high arc and a quick release. Goodman stays ready. She plays one step ahead and is ready to shoot the ball when she catches it. She is great at reading the defense where she can also hit the step back or shoot off the bounce.
Avery Douglas Avery Douglas 5'5" | PG Swanville | 2026 MN – Swanville
The point guard did really well at controlling the pace for her team. She made great reads on offense and was good at hitting the open person. Douglas has that pass-first mentality where she turned down a few of her good shots to get better shots for her teammates. However, the 5’5 guard made sure she got to her open spots on the floor so she could knock down the three when the ball came back to her. Her shooting form is pure and it leaves her hands very quickly. The best aspect of her game isn’t just her shooting ability but her ability to read the defense and attack the rim after she’s knocked down a few shots. Goodman has a very high basketball IQ.
Riley Ang Riley Ang 5'7" | CG Rosemount | 2026 State MN – Rosemount
At 5’7 Ang can really play in any guard position. She has great handles and sees the floor well. However at the Freshman Showcase we got to see her play off the ball at little more with two other top prospects Mya Moore Mya Moore 5'10" | PG Orono | 2026 State MN and Maddyn Greenway Maddyn Greenway 5'8" | PG Providence Academy | 2026 State MN playing the point guard position. The combo guard was able to play off the ball and get to her shooting spots. She is best when she can just catch and shoot but she can also create for herself off the bounce and knock it down. The two points guards would beat their defender and kick it out to Ang for the three. They ran this like a well-oiled machine. Riley doesn’t drive often but when she does she has a quick first step and can finish in the lane.
