Up Next Showcase: Team 3's Breakout Performers

The future of girls basketball was on full display at the Prep Girls Hoops Up Next Showcase on Saturday in Maple Grove, where some of the top prospects from the 2031, 2032, and 2033 classes took the floor looking to make a name for themselves. Team 3 featured a talented mix of skilled guards, emerging playmakers, and high-upside prospects who proved that age is just a number when it comes to impact. From polished shot-makers to relentless defenders and electrifying athletes, these young players gave everyone in attendance a glimpse of what's to come. Here are the Team 3 standouts who caught our attention.        #8 - This 2032 prospect plays like she's been here before. There were very few players, regardless of class, who moved as quickly and under as much control with the ball in their hands as Erickson. She consistently pushed the pace with her head up, always looking to create a play. Fearless attacking the paint, she also excelled in transition, using her eyes to manipulate the defense and create driving lanes or set up teammates with timely passes. She was undoubtedly one of the most electrifying players in the gym and proved to be a dynamic playmaker every time she had the ball in her hands.     #30 - It blew my mind when I found out Ceasar is only entering the 6th grade. Her outside shooting ranked among the best at the entire showcase. She shot the ball with confidence, deep range, and a smooth, repeatable release that made her a constant threat from beyond the arc. She's far from a one-trick pony, though. Ceasar consistently put the ball on the floor, attacked the rim with purpose, and showed she could score in multiple ways. When the ball wasn't in her hands, she didn't stand around waiting for the action. She moved well without the ball, creating opportunities for herself and being rewarded for her effort. Defensively, she was just as impressive. She competed with relentless effort on every possession, making an impact on both ends of the floor. Considering her age, her skill level, confidence, and all-around game make her an exciting young prospect with tremendous upside.     #41 - You can't always control whether your shots fall, or whether your teammates finish the plays you create for them, but you can always control your effort and attitude. Those two qualities, combined with her activity level and relentless energy, are what made Warhol stand out to me. Her energy was contagious and seemed completely natural. You could tell that's simply who she is as a player. She played with tremendous effort on every possession and brought a spark that positively impacted her team. Warhol also displayed excellent court awareness. She consistently found her spots, made smart decisions, and never forced the action. That's especially impressive in a showcase setting, where it's easy for players to feel like they have to force plays just to get noticed. Her ball handling was steady, and she did all of the little things that help teams win. While those plays don't always show up in the box score, they're often the difference-makers, and Warhol embraced that role. She was exactly what her team needed and proved that impactful basketball is about much more than scoring.     #44 - If you didn't know who [player_tooltip player_id='1806994' first='Addison' last='Spencer'] was before the showcase, you certainly do now. There were multiple moments that showed off her patience, footwork, and the countless hours she's put into her game, but two plays in particular had everyone in the gym picking their jaws up off the floor. On the first, an unsuspecting opponent thought she had a clean look at an open three-pointer. Out of nowhere, Spencer exploded into the play, blocked the shot, secured the loose ball, and finished on the other end. Impressive, but she wasn't done. On the very next possession, Spencer (pictured above) did it again. She blocked another shot, her teammate pushed the ball ahead in transition, and Spencer spotted up and buried a three over the same player whose shot she had just rejected. That's the kind of sequence that completely changes the energy in a gym. Beyond the highlight plays, Addison consistently impacted the game with her ability to rebound, push the pace, and lock down defensively. Her motor, athleticism, and two-way versatility make her an extremely intriguing 2031 prospect. She most certainly put everyone on notice.     #55 - The upside here is tremendous. For an incoming 7th grader, she's a ball of clay with the potential to be molded into something truly special. Early in the showcase, she had some trouble finishing around the rim, but what stood out was how quickly she adjusted. As the day progressed, she became much more confident attacking the basket, taking the ball directly at defenders and finishing through contact at an impressive rate. That's a natural part of the development process. It often takes young players time to grow into their bodies and become comfortable with their physical tools, and she appears to be well on her way. If she continues to get quality reps in the gym, embraces coaching, and keeps playing for the right reasons, the sky is the limit for this young prospect. The foundation is there, and her long-term potential is exciting.    This group may not have grabbed all the headlines, but they showed they could compete every time they stepped on the floor, each making winning plays in their own way. #12 – Jaeyla Regan brought contagious energy to the floor and showcased her shooting ability with a transition three and a tough and-one finish that highlighted both her confidence and enthusiasm. #15 – [player_tooltip player_id='1884282' first='Natalie' last='Cohrs'] showed good promise as a playmaker, attacking the rim under control and consistently finding teammates with timely passes. #18 – [player_tooltip player_id='1886212' first='Camryn' last='Skala'] is another young prospect to watch, displaying the ability to knock down shots both off the catch and off the dribble. #22 – [player_tooltip player_id='1808590' first='Nakai' last='Rucker'], a 2031 prospect, stood out with her tenacious on-ball defense while also showing confidence from three and attacking the rim with a lightning-quick first step. #42 – [player_tooltip player_id='1878901' first='Erin' last='Sanchez'] rounded out Team 3 with good size and one of the purest jump shots we saw all day, finding her rhythm as the showcase progressed.
