Some were great defending guards, some were down hill attacking guards, some were great scorers, and others were great shooting guards. We will break down the 2024 guard positions in several articles. In this article, we hilight the 2024 guards who were playmakers on the court. They had the ability to create their own scoring opportunities, but also distribute the ball to teammates for scoring opportunities.
Danigzy Mantilla Danigzy Mantilla 5'5" | PG St Cloud | 2024 State FL / 5’2 PG /
Mantilla stood out for her incredible skillset and versatility on the basketball court. She is a high IQ basketball player who has elite ball skills, an excellent shooting touch, great court vision, and great awareness on the court. All of these skills were on display. Mantilla shot the three with accuracy during the Expo. She also got to the basket with regularity and finished. Mantilla was a playmaker on the court. She not only made shots for herself but she also got other players involved with some nice assists.
Jasmine Bocca Jasmine Bocca 5'3" | PG Colonial | 2024 State FL / 5’2 PG /
Bocca plays like the coach on the floor. When she is on the floor, she is the floor general. She has great awareness of the game situation and plays with a very high basketball IQ. She is very aggressive at driving to the basket and knows how to finish. To illustrate Bocca’s playmaking ability, she is masterful at putting the defense at a disadvantage and creatng a positve result whether it is a layup, an assist, or drawing a foul. Bocca is always a step ahead.
Kayla Massey Kayla Massey 5'4" | PG Jean Ribault | 2024 State FL 5’5 PG
Massey has the ball in her hands a lot and she is always looking to get downhill and score the ball. She is excellent at drawing fouls and getting to the line. Massey puts enormous pressure on the defense with her ability to drive. At the Expo, she got to the freethrow line early and often. She puts pressure on the defense and if she draws a double team she is good at kicking to the open player. Defensively, Massey applies a lot of pressure which leads to steals and opportunities to make layups and assists.
Kiyana Hunter / 2024 / 5’3
Did a great job of distributing the ball to open teammates for the scores. Made some nice plays off the pick and roll . Hunter has good speed and quickness and is very good at drawing the defense and creating scoring opportunities for teammates. She is a very efficient long range shooter and should probably take more than what she does. She has very good court vision and does a good job of finding the open person in transition. She plays with very good instincts and has a high basketball acumen. Hunter plays good on-ball defense and that usually leads to playmaking opportunities.
Zoe Sedo / 2024 / 5’2 SG / Windermere Prep
Sedo knows how to put the ball in the basket. She was scoring in transition, drives to the basket, and shooting midrange and long-range jumpers. At 5’2 she is not afraid to penetrate to the basket. Sedo is a smart basketball player who made some really nice plays. She doesn’t do anything flashy on the court, but she has great awareness and makes the right play when on the court. She has great court vision and made some nice passes in transition. Last season Sedo averaged over 10 points per game and averaged nearly 4 assists per game.
