Prep Girls Hoops SC Top 250 Expo: Out-of-State GameChangers

This past weekend featured the first seven of many Prep Girls Hoops Top 250 Expo events to take place across the country. South Carolina's was one of them and the sun, surf and sand of Myrtle Beach once again provided an alluring backdrop to the great basketball that took place.
Over 100 of the state's best and brightest converged onto the John T. Rhodes Sports Center for Sunday's festivities. Other areas that hosted Top 250 events included Indiana, New England, Colorado, Florida, Tennessee and West Virginia.
A few of the talents that arrived to Myrtle Beach did so from out of state – and worthy of GameChanger status.
Heading into the 2021-22 season, Morton and her Screaming Eagle bunch had big shoes to fill – those of Saniya Rivers, the NC State sophomore who transferred from South Carolina. Morton and her team held its own with a 2021-22 that was good enough for a 4A postseason berth. Among Morton’s many elements to her overall game include the ability to gather steals as a defender and come through with 3-pointers for her team’s offense. As skilled as she is in organizing a halfcourt offense, Morton knows how to find lanes to the basket and get past a number of defenders.
Highlights
Edwards stands at 5-foot-5 and was one of the many 2024s that were on hand this past weekend at Myrtle Beach. She also did well in representing for the out-of-state talent that arrived in South Carolina or the weekend event. Edwards will make the most of the playing time she receives and one way she does this is by adding a 3-point shooting element to a team’s offense. She stands at 5-foot-5. As a homeschooled athlete, her previous experience includes playing within NCHEAC with New Life Camp Storm under head coach Aaron Miller. The team finished 20-11 last season. Ball distribution, defense and being in position for rebounds are also among her strong suits.
The 3A Rebels will begin its third season as a 3A participant after its GHSA classification moved from 2A following the 2019-20 season. Blount is establishing herself as one of the premier bigs in the Peach State as she is a consistent double-double threat with her scoring and rebounding. She also has ran track in addition to basketball throughout her athletic career. The fact that she is an even six feet gives her a height advantage over many other fives and she is not afraid to play the game on contact and take her opportunities at the free throw line.
Johnson is a multi-sport athlete who has also excelled as a soccer player in addition to basketball. She was integral in the Pirates’ noteworthy 2021-22 that saw the team finish 20-6 with a berth in the 4A NCHSAA state tournament. Johnson plays primarily at either one of the guard spots in the backcourt and can make plenty of plays in the transition game. She will take full advantage of an opposing ball carrier’s miscue and understands the art of making the extra pass. The ability to be accurate from behind the 3-point line is another element to Johnson’s complete game.
The senior Edwards is the second of the Edwards sisters that plays for the homeschool team New Life Camp Storm. She stands at a near six feet … 5-foot-10 to be exact and that height advantage can come in useful in terms of hauling in rebounds. Defensively, she is a threat to come away with steals and put plenty of points on the board. Edwards first began playing for the junior varsity New Life Camp Storm as an eighth grader before working her way up to varsity status the following season. She is more than poised to close out her preps career with an emphatic exclamation point.
