I thought getting out of this was the most difficult sectional a year ago. Pewaukee came out of sectional four last season, but it wasn't simple. This sectional has talent all over the place, and there are a lot of competitive teams, so let's talk about them.

State Contenders

Pewaukee

The Pirates went on an absolute tear at the end of last season, which took them to the state title game, and were in the game until they took a barrage of five 3s in a row from Notre Dame. The Pirates lost a lot in Megan Zielsdorf, Sarah Newcomer, and Lia Chudzik, but they also kept a lot of talent. Amy and [player_tooltip player_id='448223' first='Anna' last='Terrian'] are back, along with Ava Westermann, who played a more prominent role than I think she got credit for playing. Pewaukee also has players who didn't play big minutes who can contribute. Players like [player_tooltip player_id='333100' first='Kennedy' last='Retherford'] and Vanhi Chava can play a role for this group this season, not even mentioning the incoming class coming in this year.

Pius XI

There may not be a team who changes how they play as much as Pius this season. Mya Moore was the focal point of their offense, and they played to her strengths. Now that she's playing for Seattle, this team has a lot of guards and wings who can run the floor. The Popes scored 62 points per game last year as a team. That number should be more than 70 this season. Point Guard [player_tooltip player_id='338941' first='Tess' last='Wiczek'] will have a new running mate in the backcourt in Greenfield transfer [player_tooltip player_id='338944' first='Georgia' last='Acompanado']. Those two can handle the ball, score, create, and fly down the floor when they want to attack. Wings [player_tooltip player_id='329558' first='Kailey' last='Wozniak'], [player_tooltip player_id='338964' first='Addison' last='Miranda'], [player_tooltip player_id='425326' first='Kennedy' last='Banks'], and transfer Amaya Bridgwater can all attack off the dribble, shoot, and defend. Even forward Reenie Ganzer is more of four who'll play the five. I think this team can be an elite group.

Sectional Teams

New Berlin Eisenhower

This team will go as [player_tooltip player_id='206575' first='Lexi' last='Bugajski'] goes. After seeing her this summer, she can do much more than she did for Ike a year ago. The Appalachian State commit is one of the most versatile players in the state. You can put her on the block, mid-post, short corner, or perimeter, and she'll find ways to be successful. That's who she is as a player.

New Berlin West

Like their city rival, New Berlin West will go as [player_tooltip player_id='156085' first='Meghan' last='Schultz'] does this year. At her best, few teams can slow her down. However, when teams can force her out of her comfort zone, the team can struggle. For this team to take a step forward, they will need to get Schultz in a position to succeed. I think [player_tooltip player_id='448249' first='Isabelle' last='Freisleben'] will be critical because of the space she can provide and the skill she has in the post to take some pressure off of Schultz.

Wisconsin Lutheran

[player_tooltip player_id='209600' first='Jayla' last='Rankin'] and [player_tooltip player_id='444779' first='Jazzmine' last='Smith'] are one of the best duos in this sectional. They are both athletic guards who make life difficult for any defense they face. They can score in bunches and will threaten a team if they aren't taken seriously.

Frisky Regional Teams

Wauwatosa East

The Red Raiders bring back nearly their entire roster. The familiarity of each could pay dividends in February.

Greenfield

Losing Acompando is rough, but this team can still make a run.

South Milwaukee

The Rockets lost a massive senior class, but they built a culture of winning built. So I won't count this team out right now.
