Continue ReadingLaynee Hogan Laynee Hogan 5’9″ | PG East Buchanan | 2025 State IA returns to East Buchanan High School as one of the top players in the 1A class and in my personal opinion, one of the top point guards in the entire state. Hogan averaged 13.2 PPG and 3.7 RPG for the Bucs last year on the way to a 19-6 record, 9-6 in conference. She is an all around complete guard with the ability to score, pass, rebound, and defend. I had the privilege of watching her play at the Prep Hoops Top 250 camp this past fall and she showed out as one of the best players in the gym. She was scoring the ball on all three levels, was a confident leader, and an overall great teammate, all while being consistent. It should be a successful season for herself and the Bucs as they aim to compete for a conference championship once again.

Charlie Pryor
Charlie Pryor
The Woodbine Tigers dominated their competition last winter going 20-4 overall, 13-3 in conference, but ended their season on a loss. They will return 4 of 5 starters from a year ago in hopes of competing at the same level but ending the season with a win at the state tournament. A crucial part of their 21′-22′ run was due to their point guard, Charlie Pryor. Pryor came in as a freshman and averaged 13.5 PPG on 44.5% shooting along with 3.7 APG. Ranking her as the leading scorer and in the top 2 in assists for the Tigers. The combo guard is quick and will consistently look for an open spot on the three point line whenever given the chance. In the offseason she has tried to advance her game by adding more consistent scoring on all three levels, making her more of a problem for defenses compared to being only one dimensional. This season will be a real test of how much she has grown and where she can take this team.
Breckyn Schilling Breckyn Schilling 5’11” | SF North Mahaska | 2025 State IA is a match up problem when it comes to her high school season at North Mahaska. Being an explosive and lengthy guard at 5’11, Schilling jumped off the page last year as a freshman. She averaged 12.5 PPG on 36.3% shooting to help the Warhawks to the state playoff, where they fell in the quarterfinal to Newell-Fonda, ending their season at 23-2, 16-0 in conference. Something that really speaks about her game is on the defensive end, being able to guard the 1-4 is a big advantage that she uses. If you need someone shut down, you can put her on the job and she will get it done. The goal again this year will be to have a similar run during the regular season with a big push once the playoffs come around, but this time it will be a little more difficult seeing as that this team has lost some talent from their previous seniors. This will give Schilling the opportunity to be the “center” of the show and lead this team for her sophomore year.

Emie Tuhn Emie Tuhn CG Baxter | 2025 IA might not be a name you are use to hearing about but she made a lasting impact as a freshman for Baxter High School during the 21′-22′ season. Averaging 11.1 PPG, 4.6 RPG, 3.1 APG, and leading the Bolts to an 24-1 record, 12-0 in conference, with their only loss coming to Springville in their regional championship. Tuhn is a combo guard that plays more of a style of a 2 compared to the 1 position, with more of a rebounding presence and scoring ability all together. Even though she may play in a smaller conference it should be noted that what she did last season was nothing short of incredible for her squad. She will look to assemble another successful winter as she will become more of the main option for the Bolts, as they graduated 3 starters from a year ago.
Sadie Cox
Sadie Cox
There is usually a higher amount of scoring in 1A basketball compared to other classes when it comes to individual accolades, Sadie Cox of Lenox High School did her fair share of that last year as a freshman. Averaging 17.1 PPG, 15.6 RPG and 1.8 APG for the Tigers. When it comes to scoring and rebound as a combo, I don’t know if anyone in the state of Iowa had a better stat line last year. Leading her team to a record of 16-7, 9-4 in conference. Cox is a multi-sport athlete with a high motor, she is efficient and quick when it comes to shots near the hoop with a superior ability of rebounding over her opponents. She will return along with 2 other starters from last season as they aim to fix their miscues and make a big jump moving forward as the year progresses.
