Prep Girls Preseason Predictions:
Timberland HS – Amiyah Ferguson Amiyah Ferguson 5'9" | CG Timberland | 2023 State SC a Cal State Northridge commit is back for one last go around with the Lady Wolves.
Oceanside Collegiate – The Lady Landsharks squad has a promising future – Plenty of young talent on this roster.
Bishop England – The Lady Bishops have great basketball tradition – new roster but still have Head Coach Paul Runey walking the sidelines.
Academic Magnet – The Lady Raptors will look to surprise some teams this season.
Lake Marion HS – The Lady Gators will rely on Danasia Wright Danasia Wright 5'10" | SF Lake Marion | 2024 State SC for leadership and scoring production.
Ferguson is the Prep Girls Hoops Preseason Region Player of the Year. Amiyah recently shut down her recruitment with a commitment to CSU Northridge in Southern California. Ferguson a left-hand combo guard averaged 16.6 ppg, 8.5 rebounds and 6.9 assists last season for the Lady Wolves (16-14). Amiyah sees the floor very well from out top and really excels in the transition game.
Can the Wolves make some noise this season in Class 2A?
Ford really knows how to work from block to block and side to side. Tynasjia will carve out space with her ability to be a mover-screener at times. She has a nice touch from the elbow and short corner to keep the defense honest. Ford has a good set of hands to catch anything thrown her way in the half court.
Wright is a virtual unknow outside the Santee Community of Lake Marion. Danasia will be back to lead the Lady Gator again this season. Wright has good length to make plays all over the court at times while playing aggressive. She will need a big season for the Lady Gators to get to the playoffs.
Woods just constantly brings effort and HUSTLE to the table whenever she plays. She will be expected to lead this season with the loss of 10 players to graduation for the Lady Bishops. Woods is a vocal leader who looks to push the tempo up the floor as a pass first point guard. Isabella will log a lot of minutes this season for the Lady Bishops and rarely come off the floor.
Johnson is an ideal run-jump-athlete who is still figuring the out the game of basketball at times. Amari scores most of her points around the cup just on activity and putbacks. She can defend out on the perimeter with her athleticism. Johnson still has her best basketball in front of her down the road.
Brown brings versatility to the perimeter for the Lady Landsharks. She can handle the rock at the point guard or knockdown shots on the perimeter. She plays very mature for her age at times on the floor with her assertiveness. Kaylin will look to be a state sheet stuffer this season for OCA. Brown does a little bit of everything on the floor to keep contributing to her team’s efforts.
Rush came on the scene back in the summer during some team camp events. Ava runs the floor well and fills the lane in transition. She really likes to play face-up to the basket and at times looks to set up shop out on the perimeter. Rush knows how to stay active on both ends of the floor. Look for her to contribute some good minutes to this talented OCA roster.
Highlights
China is a small and fearless guard for the Lady Wolves. She is more of combo guard who really likes to play off the ball. Greene has no problems pulling up from downtown and shooting the 3-ball on short notice. China will leak out for some cheapies in transition at times and really has a knack to score the ball.
The Academic Magnet Lady Raptors have a few juniors to keep an eye on this coming season. Abby Brauchle Abby Brauchle 5'10" | PF Academic Magnet | 2024 State SC and Holly Manning Holly Manning 5'4" | PG Academic Magnet | 2024 State SC will look to lead the way for Head Coach Stevie Jones.
