With the Expo being held on a Saturday rather than Sunday this year due to difficulties scheduling Sunday gym space, that left a number of two-sport athletes on the outside looking in thanks to their high school soccer and volleyball commitments. For those seniors who did take to the court, however, the day was more than fruitful as the Division 2 and 3 coaches in attendance were watching attentively, asking lots of questions and reaching out to the players when it was all over. We liked what we saw, too. These are the Class of 2023 All Star selections.
Karly had herself a day on Saturday. After catching our attention last weekend during a workout at Starks Academy in Duluth, Holm did more of the same at the Top 250. The great thing about this showcase is it frees players of any obligations to system or structure or the fear of making mistakes. They can play however they want to play and sometimes it offers us a completely different view of a player’s capabilities. That’s what Karly did. She is, first and foremost, an exceptional athlete and it showed. She was flying up and down the court, beating defenders one-on-one, elevating to the rim in fine fashion and finishing through contact. She was also knocking down shots and defending with passion. What we saw was confidence and a player whose best is yet to come.

Jasmine has worked tirelessly over the years to improve. She has put in the time, she has put in the effort and she has embraced the grind. It shows. Dupree has also never missed an opportunity to showcase her skills with and against the best. Playing on her home floor at Hopkins, it was Jasmine’s last hurrah at the Top 250 and she made the most of it. We love her energy, her ability and willingness to rebound with gumption, her never-say-die pursuit of the basketball. Jazzy has earned the opportunity to play a significant role at Hopkins which is no small accomplishment. And she has more than earned the right to play at the next level.

The senior hails from Melrose-Mindoro High School in Wisconsin, about 40 miles east of Winona. We’ve seen her with Playmakers South and have always been impressed by her length and athleticism. She is a competitor who brings energy and effort on a consistent basics. She has a multi-dimensional game, with the ability to get to the basket in traffic or knock down jump shots from mid-range and beyond. She also defends with a ton of energy. Our colleague Brady Peterson from Prep Girls Hoops Wisconsin has high praise for Radcliffe’s game. In a preview of the upcoming season, Brady wrote that “Lilly could end up being the best player in D4 that nobody talks about.” Based on what we saw from Radcliffe on Saturday the conversation definitely needs to get louder!
Grace was as solid as always on Saturday. That’s saying a lot because our ongoing expectations for the Top 30 prospect are exceptionally high. The power forward, who helped Providence Academy capture the Class 2A high school state championship last spring, has size, she has length, and she has touch. Combined with the fact that she can get up and down the floor at pace, finish on the fly and play a physical game inside at both ends of the playing surface makes her a complete package. Grace plans to play college ball on the East Coast next season – she’s just not sure yet exactly where, but there are plenty of options on the recruiting front. Coaches looking for a winner need to get in the conversation as soon as possible. Grace will not let you down.

Last year’s Top 250 Expo was a milestone moment for Jess, who used the platform offered by the annual showcase to make it clear that she was going to be a player to watch in the months ahead. That’s exactly what we’ve done over the past 12 months – watch her – and along the way we have seen her game flourish. At 6’3, the Top 100 prospect is going to get every opportunity to play at the next level. With improved skills and a greater willingness to play a physical brand of basketball, she has definitely raised her stock. And now the biggest difference we see from Oberlander is an emerging confidence on the floor. We are more than intrigued by the possibilities that lie ahead. So was pretty much every coach in attendance on Saturday.
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Hope Carlson Hope Carlson 5'11" | SG Proctor | 2023 State MN – The lengthy competitor from Proctor was another one who made an impression last weekend on our trip to Duluth. She did it again at the Expo. Hope is a versatile performer whose skillset has grown and whose work ethic is unquestioned. We love her energy.
Maggie Jones – The crafty guard from North St. Paul has impressed at the Breakdown Fall League the past couple of weekends and her much-improved level of play continued on Saturday. She’s just crafty and the growth in her game over the past year is palpable. Look out at the next level.
Shyla Moore Shyla Moore 5'7" | SG Shakopee | 2023 State MN – Every college coach needs a Shyla or two on their roster. She is a no-nonsense, defense-first, team-oriented guard who shows up every day ready to compete. We’ve seen her do consistently good work in these parts for several seasons. She’d like to be playing on the East or West Coast one year from now.
