It has been showcase season this fall in Florida with individual showcases all throughout the state every weekend, the ENG Power 80 Showcase wrapped up the showcase circuit moving the date from early October to late October due to Hurricane Ian. With over 60 players in attendance, individuals were divided into 8 teams and played 3 games each. Here are the top guard performers.
Jadah Toombs Jadah Toombs 5'7" | PG Fort Myers | 2024 State FL (Fort Myers HS) – 5’7 Guard – Class of 2024
Toombs is a quick guard that has solid handle. She does good job of playing under control and changing speeds with the ball in her hands. She is an unselfish playmaker who gives ball up to open players. Her solid 3-point shooting with excellent form and quick release really opens the floor for her. She does a good job attacking down hill off the dribble and getting into the paint dropping bounce passes for easy baskets for post players inside the paint.
Amaiya Potter (Wiregrass Ranch) – 5’6 Point Guard – Class of 2023
Potter has a steady, cool, calm and collected presence on the court from the point guard position. She was extremely consistent in all three games, doing a good job balancing handling the ball vs pressure, getting the ball to open players in scoring position, finding opportunities to score herself at the rim and from the outside, and getting after it on the defensive end of the floor.
Jahnya Lewis (Everglades) – 5’5 PG – Class of 2023
Lewis is a versatile guard with good athleticism and a strong, athletic body. She can play all three perimeter positions and is effective on both the offensive end defensive sides of the ball.
Aubrey Horn Aubrey Horn 5'8" | CG Central Florida Christian Academy | 2024 State FL (Central Florida Christian Academy) – 5’7 Guard – Class of 2024
Horn is a skilled, high IQ shooting guard with deep range. She was one of the top 3-point shooters at the event, showcasing her deep range, and high percentage shooting, knocking down multiple 3s in all 3 games.
Siarah Brown Siarah Brown 5'10" | CG Orlando Christian Prep | 2023 State FL (Orlando Christian Prep) – 5’7 Guard – Class of 2023
Brown is a savvy play maker who has good open court skills. She has a scorer’s mentality who wants to push the ball in transition, attack the paint, and play downhill. She can put the ball in the basket both at the rim and from the perimeter when left open.
Ellasyn Matiak (South Lake HS) – 5’7 PG – Class of 2023
Matiak played with a knee brace coming off an injury but appeared to be close to 100%. She is a playmaker with good handle and passing skills. She stood out as one of most skilled players all weekend – showcasing excellent court vision and a high basketball IQ. One of the most impressive things she did all weekend was make passes for easy shots with both her left and right hand – something you very rarely see at the high school level. Matiak is not the most athletic player but she uses her body and changes speed to protect the ball, handle the ball vs pressure, and get by her defender and into the paint.
Samaria Sims (New Faith Christian Academy) – 5’2 Point Guard – Class of 2023
Sims was a very active point guard that is savvy with ball in her hands and is aggressive pushing the tempo in transition. She has good open court moves, taking on defenders in 1v1 situations, and getting into the paint and scoring at the rim.
Aleyna Sherman Aleyna Sherman 5'3" | PG Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate HS | 2023 State FL (Armwood) – 5’5 Guard – Class of 2023
Sherman has a little shake to her game reminding me of the class of 2024 top prospect Trinity Turner Trinity Turner 5'7" | CG Dr. Phillips | 2024 State FL . She has a small, strong, compact build and is quick off the dribble, getting into the paint, scoring at the rim, and creating shots for others.
