Macy is one of the most talented players that we’ve ever had in Kentucky. She is a special talent and she continues to show that every time she steps on the court. Her “bad” games would be a lot of players best game. Macy is so hard to stop around the basket because of her versatility and ability to finish through contact. She can do a little bit of everything and she is such an impressive rebounder. In fact, through her 1st 3 games this season, she’s averaging an impressive 20.3 PPG and 20.3 RPG. Macy is not only one of the most talented players in the state, but nationwide. She should show that high level talent all throughout this season while helping her team compete as one of the top-ranked teams in Kentucky.
Mbugua is so long and has such an athletic frame. She’s a double-double machine with all of the potential in the world. She has already committed to play at Liberty University in the future, so she doesn’t play over the spring or summer, which honestly makes it even more impressive that she’s able to put up the numbers she does throughout each season. We’re obviously very early into the season, but Mbugua is already posting another big double-double at 16 PPG and 11 RPG. I’ve been most impressed by her ability to knock down outside shots at a high percentage early on this season.
Smith is the kind of player you love to have on your team as a coach and as a player. She’s the furthest thing from selfish, but she can make some really impressive plays for herself and her team. She has a high basketball IQ and she can create both on and off of the ball. Smith can score at all 3 levels herself as well. She is an excellent defender and she really gets after it on both ends of the floor. She can apply so much pressure on the ball and she’s an excellent rebounder. Smith could score 0 points and I guarantee she’ll still stand out to you when you watch her team play.
Highlights
Gilbert has started off her sophomore season as strong as anyone. In her 1st 2 games, she averaged 23 PPG and 15.5 RPG. She obviously has excellent length, but she is also so versatile and fearless. One of the most impressive parts of her game is her decision making and efficiency. She finished the season with one of the highest field goal percentages in the state at 61.2%. She’s shot 64.3% through her 1st 2 games this season, so she’s on pace to do the same thing as a sophomore. Gilbert can score in the post or she can knock down jump shots.
Soutar can really make a lot happen using her length. She can put the ball in the basket, but she can also contribute in so many other ways. In fact, she is her team’s primary rebounder and shot blocker. She has already had 10+ blocks in a game this season and I wouldn’t be surprised to see even more of those as the season goes on. Soutar can post up and score around the rim, but she also recognizes when help steps over and she does a great job of getting the ball to her shooters on the outside. She runs the floor well and should continue showing her impressive skills as this season goes on.

Triplett may be listed as a power forward, but she really has a lot of guard skills. She can score around the basket, but she’s an excellent outside shooter as well. Her drives to the basket are strong and once she gets more confident in her ability to drive to the hoop, you’re going to see her go to a whole different level, but the ability is already within her. Triplett does a great job of delivering the ball to her teammates and she is on a team that is loaded with talented scorers. She is a strong defender and she uses her length well to come up with steals and deflections. Triplett is definitely a player to watch for.
Highlights
Alexander is one of the most strong power forwards on this list. She plays with one of the most highly regarded centers in the state, and yet she’s managed to track almost the same amount of rebounds in her 1st 2 games of the season. She’s shown an ability to score both inside and out in those games as well. Alexander is a disruptive defender as well. She can block shots and grab rebounds really well. She really adds a lot whenever she’s on the floor and she should continue to be a major factor for her Butler squad.
