Continue ReadingThis tournament will feature some great players and teams. If you haven’t had a chance to see Union freshman Brooklyn Haywood, here’s your tournament. A field that consists of Union, Richland, Glacier Peak, Emerald Ridge, Nooksack, Burlington Edison and Piedmont (CA). The team from California is nationally ranked. Can any of these Washington teams knock them off? Here are a few players that might be able to help with that. The tournament will run December 27-29 at Glacier Peak high school.
The reigning two-time Mid-Co player of the year is back for her senior season. She does a lot of things for this team. She can score from all levels. She is an excellent shooter with some serious range that extends more toward the NBA three-point line. She is well-rounded and plays with effort on defense and she goes and gets rebounds. She gets a lot of steals from reading the passing lanes and reacting. She has the height to post up smaller guards. Look out if she gets hot. She can knock them down with the best of them.
The freshman point guard is the best player in the state. She is hands down the best shooter in the state. Prove me wrong. She has a skill set that features some of the best moves and footwork I have seen this season. There is nothing that she can’t do at an elite level from the point guard position. She plays defense and is intense. She has a killer instinct that you cannot teach. She has yet to play much more than 3 quarters in a game if that. She still managed to drop a school record 35 points in her 2nd high school game. She will break her record. Only a freshman, who knows how many times. Elite-level guard skills!
She is a lightning-quick point guard who scores, distributes, and is a leader for a talented team with a lot of weapons. Alina Sapilak Alina Sapilak 5’10” | SG Emerald Ridge | 2023 State WA is one of those weapons that get open looks from Carter and knocks them down, including a 20-point game in a win over Puyallup. Carter has a crafty side to her game and uses some nice moves to get to the basket and score. She is also a threat from deep, and her quickness makes her tough to stop. Great player on a good team.

1st team all 4A Wesco last season. She can get to the bucket but might be a better shooter. I like her shooting skills. She gets her shot off in a hurry because of her great form which is compact and ready to go when she gets it. She can do more than just shoot, she is creative in the lane and gets some impressive shots to go down. She has the experience and skill set to make things happen for Glacier Peak in this tournament.
One of the best players in any class, she leads a loaded Nooksack team coming off a 2nd place finish at the Class 1A state tournament. She is an all-level, do-it guard who is stronger and more athletic than her opponents, on almost any night. She will get into the lane and score. She will shoot from anywhere. She has a strong mid-range game. She has great handles. She checks all the boxes, with her size and athletic ability. A true candidate for 1A player of the year.

You want a post player to go with the guards I have mentioned, here is a 6’4 center that is force on both ends of the floor. She blocks and changes shots and plugs the middle. She can score, getting herself deep position on the block. There won’t be many teams who have a player who matches her size. There are also a few guards who can shoot it, seniors Bryten Gumke, Destiny Kamalu-Vargas. and Sophomore Sloane Gardner.
Don’t think it’s all the Brooklyn show because this girl can ball as well. She is an excellent shooter, giving Union the best shooting backcourt in the state in my opinion. She is also great in the open floor as an athletic player. She gets steals, drops daggers from three, and finishes on the break. She’s got good speed and is probably the best athlete on the team. Good player, who would be the best player on many teams.
