Continue ReadingI had a chance to get my second look at Boswell while also capturing Trinity for the first time and to say I was a bit surprised would be an understatement. The progression from many players on the Boswell squad was satisfying, yet the new faces I caught on the Trinty team fall into that “talent is everywhere” statement I love to drop every chance I get
Miraya Perkins Miraya Perkins 5'9" | PF Hazen | 2023 State TX -5’10 SG/SF (Boswell) [2023] University of Texas Arlington
Perkins understands how to use her athleticism on both ends of the court, whether it’s attacking the basket from the outside and finishing strongly after contact is one thing yet her creating that pull-up jumper is another. She elevates and drops it with a hand in her face. On the flip, she does a good job defending as well as rebounding on both ends of the court
K’mari Henley K’mari Henley 5'8" | SF Boswell High School | 2026 TX -SF (Boswell) 2026
Henley dove on the floor for loose balls which immediately had my attention but when you factor in her “smothering” defense baseline to baseline, that was another plus. I kept adding to what she brought to the table after seeing her not only play the passing lane over and over but rebound strongly over and over
Salena Carrasco Salena Carrasco 5'7" | PG Boswell | 2026 State TX -5’8 PG (Boswell) 2026
Carrasco continues to show progression after making the transition to high school basketball running where the game starts, at the 1.
I also enjoyed watching other Boswell players that brought some heat. Tori Echols Tori Echols SF TX -PF is a talented sophomore that went after everything off the rim. Watching via Livestream isn’t easy so either Malia Jones-SF 2023 or Tyra Knight-CG had on #11 and did a good job of not only playing the passing lane but scored both off the dribble as well as using the jumper. Samantha Thomas-CG 2024, also played the passing lane and did a good job defending “on the ball”. Emily Bouaphanh-PG 2024 created her shot nicely off the dribble and got to the basket with ease to either score or dish
Trinity
Alisha Nunley-5’5 PG [2023]
Nunley is a speedy guard, in fact, she has SWB, speed with the ball. Her ability to blow past defenders not only in the open court but also in the set as she uses an explosive first step to get to the basket. She also created her shot from the outside and got it off, basically whenever she wanted. I also enjoyed watching her apply “on the ball” pressure but no matter the score is, she plays the same which falls into that “never takes a play-off” type of players
Asiiika Fonua-5’10 SG [2023]
Fonua also did a good job creating her shot as well as knocking it down, both under pressure. She has a deceptive first step to attack the basket and showed she could finish strongly after contact. I was equally impressed with not only her passing but her court vision as well
Gotta give a special S/O to both Alexis Lucero and Jaya Johnson, both juniors who hit the boards hard on both ends. Another S/O goes to the freshman Angeal Nunley-5’8 SG and younger sister of Alisha. Her upside is scary, she attacks the basket with either hand and finishes after contact plus can drop the jumper
