Well it appears that for some reason, their filter isn’t smoking because while getting ready for an article on Region 2, guess what, I found missing Region 3 players, so let me add those players, who I have seen personally, either LIVE or LIVESTREAM
RyLee Grays RyLee Grays 6'3" | PF The Village School | 2023 State #17 Nation TX – 6’2 PF (Pearland) 2023 17.7 ppg
Grays is closing out her high school career with a bang after helping lead her Cy Fair EYBL team to a Nike Nationals championship, she is putting her school squad in a position to make a run to the state tournament as they are one of the teams to beat. What I like even more about her is that she has progressed every season since I caught her in elementary school. Her powerful finishes with either hand, after contact, around the basket plays a part in her dominance inside the paint but she has expanded her range as well as shown she can attack from the wing and score. Solid rebounder, on both ends, she’ll be taking all of this to North Carolina
Amirah Gray-5’9 SF (Clear Springs) 2024 17.3 ppg
Gray is one of those players that “just goes hard” on both ends and when you find those “never takes a play-off” type of player. She first caught my eye playing with Gulf Coast Legacy during club season after her coach, Kelli Griffin, told me about her squad. Griffin is one of the best point guards to come out of Houston, she starred at Baylor so yeah, I watched and yes, she was right but Gray’s scoring off the dribble using a very nice first step and finishing powerfully stood out even more at the Peggy Whitley Classic. That, and her jumper, made her hard to handle yet her “on the ball” defense as well as diving for loose balls was also nice
Neso Anisiobi-5’9 SF (Westside) 2024 15.2 ppg
Anisiobi went off during the club season with Just Play because she JUST PLAYED baseline to baseline. That was also apparent when I traveled to Baytown to cath her go completely off during the Lady Gander Tip-Off with Westside, which also happens to be my daughter’s high school. No form of nepotism was needed, her athleticism was bewildering at times as she overpowered players taller on the inside as well as showed she could drop the jumper. Her attacking and finishing were also nice and she’s coming off an MVP award after helping lead her squad to the HISD Tournament Championship
Andrea Sturdivant Andrea Sturdivant 5'6" | SG Fort Bend Austin | 2025 State TX -5’7 PG (Fort Bend Austin) 2025 15.2 ppg
Sturdivant was the baby on the floor during a Cy Fair Premier Individual Showcase and when I see a 5th grader doing damage against players heading to the next level, #D1Lock drops. I used Bone Crusher’s Never Scared back in the day yet this is a new day so Eminem’s Not Afraid replaces that because she doesn’t back down and “relishes the challenge” on both ends. Her “on-the-ball defense” can be smothering, she plays the passing lane as well as uses her quick hands to come away with steals yet she’s also a nightmare to defend in the open court as she can leave defenders cemented to the floor. Her mid to long-range, combined with acrobatic finishes are very nice, so is her court vision n
Kelechi Dike-5’11 SF (Fort Bend Austin) 2023 14.5 ppg
Dike has been filling in several blanks for her Houston Dream club squad, which is where I first caught her, maybe in middle school yet she’s long and athletic, which will always be the base. I love her timing to block, alter and (or) deflect shots but she also defends strongly both inside and outside the paint. Her ability to soar over defenders to score inside is one thing yet she can drop the midrange by elevating with ease, with a hand in her face. She has a deceptive first step to get to the basket but she also does a good job hitting the boards, she goes after everything, and playing the passing lane is simply icing on the cake
