Brooklyn Birt Brooklyn Birt 5'10" | PF Menomonie | 2025 State WI
I didn’t attend a game last night, but I watched one via youtube. That game was Menomonie traveling to Rice Lake. The game will have long-term ramifications on the Big Rivers Conference, and I thought I knew most of the pivotal players coming into the game, but Brooklyn Birt Brooklyn Birt 5'10" | PF Menomonie | 2025 State WI made a statement. Birt led all players in scoring with 19 points and came up big every time the Mustangs needed her. The sophomore wing made a big 3-pointer late to put the game out of reach for the Mustangs and helped give her team the early edge for the conference title race.
The Westfield guard is quietly one of the most effective guards in D4. She’s played at two state title games already and now brings immense talent and experience to a Pioneer team that has lofty goals for themselves. They played a sectional finalist from a season ago in Edgewood and left the gym with a 62-48 win over the Crusaders. Drew led both teams with 23 points and added four rebounds and three steals in the win.
Aaliyah Hamilton
The last two players I’ll mention I didn’t hear about before last night. Hamilton is a La Crosse Logan 2024 guard who scored 28 points in an impressive win over Arcadia. The junior added five rebounds and three assists, but there was another statistical note I found more impressive. Hamilton got to the free-throw line 11 times and made every one of her attempts at the charity stripe. The win for Logan can jumpstart their season and be one of the surprises from Western Wisconsin.
Mara Stamper
The other newbie to my articles is 5-foot-4 Crandon guard Mara Stamper. The Cardinal led the game in scoring, with 16 points in a narrow 48-46 win. The Cardinals advanced to 6-0, partially due to Stamper’s excellent start to the season. Having a trustworthy guard at the helm makes a world of difference. The senior has seen differing levels of competitive teams as a Cardinal. Now that she’s a senior, she can bring a level of confidence she hasn’t had before, and that could make Crandon a tricky postseason opponent in their region.
