Cherise Shamp, 5’11 G/W – Mount Mansfield Union High School Class of 2023
It was a tough overtime victory for MMU vs Rutland High School. Shamp found her production in the 4th and OT, finishing with a game high 29 points, 12 rebounds, five steals, and three assists. Cherise’s inside out abilities make her an absolute problem for opponents. She’s a wing who can handle the ball and slash to the cup where she collects lots of layups and free throws. Yet she’s also a relentless rebounder on both ends of the floor. Clearly, Shamp’s hustle on the glass and in the press make her a defensive dynamo. And she can fill it up.
Peyton Guay, 5’9 G/W – West Rutland High School Class of 2025
Peyton made a statement against Mill River and may have produced the highest scoring total we see this season in the 802. Guay put up a whopping 41 points in West Rutland’s trouncing of Mill River. Guay’s two-way abilities contributed to the outsized point differential as she forced turnovers and got tons of transition buckets. She has wise shot selection too, getting most of her buckets in the paint. Yet she can step out to three and knock it down from there. Peyton put the state on notice; she gets buckets!
Sabine Brueck, 5’8 G – North Country Union High School Class of 2025
It was a defensive clinic from Sabine as she denied U-32’s best player the whole game, showcasing impressive off-ball instincts. She must’ve collected near double-digit steals in addition to her 27 points and 10 rebounds. Sabine attacked the hoop all game, showing nice slashing ability with the ball in her hand and heads-up cutting when off the ball. In addition, she knocked down a couple three too. Brueck worked the boards on both ends, forced turnovers, and finished plays. She’s a force.
Anna Moser Anna Moser 5'8" | CG Rutland | 2026 State New E , 5’6 G – Rutland High School Class of 2026
The electric 2026, Moser has already made it clear how integral she is to the RHS cause. Anna has been one of RHS’ leading scorers in the first three games of the season. She put up 21 points in the season opener, 17 in a tough OT loss to MMU, and a solid 12 in a win vs Essex. Anna is a three-level scoring threat, no doubt. She dropped five threes against MMU and a few against BFA and EHS too. But she also gets to the rim with crafty dribble combos and decisive attacks. It should be noted, Moser is an ultra-competitor on both ends and has the poise of an upperclassmen. Watch out!
Sakoya Sweeney Sakoya Sweeney 5'6" | CG Lake Region | 2023 State New E , 5’8 PG – Lake Region High School Class of 2023
Sweeney, the senior leader for Lake Region, led her team with 23 points in the season opener against Mississquoi. Yet, what might be more impressive is that Sakoya and company took down the defending D1 champs on their own floor. It was a rock fight, ending 40-36 against Rice Memorial. In a close game with multiple lead changes, Sakoya sealed the deal by knocking down two clutch free throws in the last 30 seconds. She’s a tough two-way guard with playmaking ability and fantastic leadership.
Sydney Perry, 6’1 F – Windsor High School Class of 2024
At 6’1 with her strong frame, Sydney can really dominate the paint. Perry did just that in Windsor’s opening week. In a tough loss to a hardy D2 team in Fair Haven, Sydney contributed six points and a stout 18 boards. Then, against Bellows Falls, Sydney produced a 15 point, 10 board performance in a blowout win. Perry has fantastic length and strength around the rim, and she uses it well to secure extra possessions and second chance points on the offensive end. In addition, she limits teams to one shot possessions defensively. A bit raw still offensively but solid in every other facet.
