Kairah Dixon-Booker has been doing it all for her team. She gets inside to do to the dirty work cleaning up around the glass, and she can handle the ball herself for some solo fast breaks off these defensive rebounds. She elevates over her opponents for her jump shot, or she can drive it all the way to the hoop even finishing through contact. She’s a tough defender taking care of things in the paint, and she can step out around the perimeter going against guards trying to dribble by her.
Jakieya Thompson has certainly had some big shoes to fill with two seniors graduating from St. Pauls and moving on to NC A&T (which she also plans to do after this season). She has been controlling the ball for her team pushing the tempo when needed finding her open teammates flashing up the court. She moves fluidly with the ball, and she knows exactly when to pull up for her shot. When she isn’t handling the ball, she uses quick cuts and fakes to get lost by her defenders and get open.
Sydney Gueterman has been versatile for years being able to guard multiple positions using her height to cause problems. One of the things she has added to her arsenal over the past year is shooting from deep. She can drive the ball with fakes to get around her opponents, or she can knock it down from all over the court. She rebounds effectively on both ends, and she can be counted on to block shots from the paint. She has been used to playing college speed and will be capable of making an immediate impact at Catawba next season.
Jadyiah Peoples is heading to the mountains at Mars Hill next season but is certainly showing she has some unfinished business at the high school level. You can count on her to score in double digits on all three levels. She controls the ball much of the game pushing it up the court and taking advantage of defenses that are not ready for her to drive to the hoop. She can kick it to her opponents after drawing defenders towards her, too.
Jamecia Huntley has a state championship under her belt, and she is looking to make another run at it with West Rowan. She can score on all levels, and she is an asset guarding many positions on defense. She sees the floor well knowing how to jump into passing lanes on defense and find the gaps when she is working on offense. She gets inside to grab rebounds, and she certainly hustles up the court for fast breaks and going after loose balls.
Highlights
Reagan Iovino is looking forward to playing her full senior season before moving on to Belmont Abbey. She is a knockdown shooter from deep, and she handles the ball well finding her teammates underneath the basket. She’s a fierce defender making it difficult for opposing guards to get by her or even get a play going. She has been showing off her high IQ for years knowing how to move with and without the ball to always be an asset on the court.
