Sage Maccauley, 5’10 W/F – Spaulding High School Class of 2023
In the early goings, Sage established her post presence with precise footwork and touch around the ri. As the game wore on, Maccauley drew her defenders out to the perimeter as she knocked down threes, mid-range J’s, and slashed to the cup, tallying 19 points total. In addition, she showed her versatility on the defensive end. She locked down the interior, showed agile perimeter work, and has a knack for cleaning the glass. Maccauley is an all-around hooper with inside/out capabilities on both ends.
Yvonne Roberge Yvonne Roberge 5'6" Spaulding | 2023 New E , 5’7 G – Spaulding High School Class of 2023
Roberge spent the first half facilitating as she got SHS into sets, pushed the ball in transition, and led the defensive unit with ball pressure. Yet in the second half her offense came alive. She knocked down a couple threes and finished looks inside due to heady off-ball movement. More importantly, she made a number of clutch plays to put SHS ahead. Yvonne finished a tough look in transition, then stole the inbounds pass and fed Maccauley for an easy two in the final minutes. She finished with 11 points, seven boards and numerous dimes, but that momentum swing in the fourth led by Roberge closed the game.
Gracie Martin, 5’8 W – Spaulding High School Class of 2024
Efficient and smart, Gracie doesn’t necessarily jump off the stat-sheet. Nonetheless, Martin was highly impactful in this one. She locked in defensively against Lamoille’s strong perimeter play and secured 50/50 balls plus long rebounds to keep LUHS limited to single shot possessions. And on the offensive end, she was methodical. She knocked down her open looks and read defensive coverage wisely as she slipped passes to cutters and post players for east two’s. Martin sees the game one play ahead.
Taylor Kiel, 5’6 G – Spaulding High School Class of 2025
Kiel was integral to getting SHS going offensively in the first half. She showed good ball security on her drives to the cup and drew numerous fouls. I believe she went 7-9 from the charity stripe with six of those coming in the first frame. Moreover, Taylor displayed nice defensive awareness and grit. She dug in against ballhandlers and had a couple of steals as she preyed on LUHS ballhandlers when they tried to break out after rebounds. I like her demeanor out there.
Alana Crittenden, 5’9 G – Lamoille Union High School Class of 2026
The freshman has taken on a big-time role, jumping in as the starting point guard. It was quickly apparent why. Alana applied agile and aggressive on-ball pressure, giving one of D2’s best PG’s everything she could handle. Moreover, she showed nice discipline to challenge drives without fouling. Crittenden handled the pressure that came in return quite well as she got to the rack and finished in traffic. Plus, she’s a guard who can rebound the rock. Alana is one to keep an eye on.
Evie Pirie, 5’7 G – Lamoille Union High School Class of 2025
Pirie is a combo-guard who fits most comfortably at the 2. In this one, her perimeter skill set kept SHS on their toes as she slashed into the second layer for lays, short range pull-ups, and kick outs to shooters. Moreover, she knocked down a couple catch-and-shoot threes to keep the defense honest and made quick decisions to move the ball otherwise. Evie defended SHS’ perimeter play with her length and quickness, then provided quick outlets to push off of rebounds. Pirie is essential to LUHS’ young core.
Marielle Benoit, 5’11 F – Lamoille Union High School Class of 2024
On a fairly perimeter heavy team, Marielle is the anchor in the interior. Benoit’s length made it tough on SHS’s drivers to get clean looks at the rim, and Marielle was able to challenge the savvy post play of Maccauley too. Additionally, she led LUHS on the glass. With quick outlets she sparked the break then ran the floor hard for transition twos. Benoit’s interior presence was key to Lamoille’s competitiveness against a veteran Spaulding team.
Ava Clark, 5’8 G – Lamoille Union High School Class of 2025
The spark plug off the bench gave Lamoille a boost a few times throughout the game. Ava’s combination of speed and tenacity were on display in this transition-heavy affair. She clicked into an extra gear in the open court as she ran lanes to attack the rim. In addition, she also spoiled SHS’ fastbreaks with back taps and agile recovery to get back in front of the ball. Clark’s two-way peskiness and hustle were electric.
