The Hilton Head Christian Academy girls came up to Northwood Academy and walked away with a 53-33 victory. The Eagles moved to (17-1) on the season while the Lady Chargers fall to (8-7).
Can the Eagles Win 5 in a Row?:
The Lady Eagles have moved up a classification to SCISA Class 3A this season. The Lady Eagles have won the last 4 straight state championships at the SCISA Class 2A ranks. Hilton Head Christian currently stands at (17-1) on the season.
Seniors Leading the Way:
Abby Peduzzi Abby Peduzzi 5'9" | SF Hilton Head Christian | 2023 State SC and Future Stock-Riser Jaida Grayson Jaida Grayson 5'10" | SF Hilton Head Christian | 2023 State SC are 2 of the 3 seniors on this Eagles roster. Peduzzi is off the board for next as she will play volleyball at UNC-Pembroke (NCAA D2). Abby was able to finish around the basket with her left-hand at times. She is a great person this talented team. She finished the night with 8 points for the Eagles.
Grayson can get the ball downhill in a hurry with her frame to the basket. Jaida has a good body to overpower defenders at times to the cup. She took the ball coast to coast a few times here today. Grayson is averaging 10.2 ppg this season and finished with the 8 points this evening. Jaida felt comfortable pulling up at times for some jumpers. She rebounds ball very well from her position and outside of her area.
Lady Chargers Missing a Few Players:
Alayah Birch Alayah Birch 5'9" | CG Northwood Academy | 2024 State SC and Virginia Byrd Virginia Byrd 5'5" | PG Northwood Academy | 2024 State SC both sat this game out for the Lady Chargers. Birch a 2024 Top player in the Palmetto State has yet to play this season. Byrd recently got hurt and has missed the last few games for the Lady Chargers. Head Coach Ginnell Curtis was not in attendance for this game today as she was out sick.
Just a 8th Grader:
Maliyah Birch Maliyah Birch 5'3" | PG Northwood Academy | 2027 State SC is playing plenty of minutes this season for the Lady Chargers. Birch sure doesn’t play like her age at all. She was able to score 17 points in the defeat today while dropping some mid-range jumpers and finishing on the break at times.
1,2,3 Juniors Make Things Go:
Tamya Hutchinson Tamya Hutchinson 5'4" | PG Hilton Head Christian | 2024 State SC and Devon Yarde Devon Yarde 5'6" | PG Hilton Head Christian | 2024 State SC create quite a 1-2 punch for the Lady Eagles. Hutchinson made the move over a season ago from nearby Estill HS. She really plays her best basketball scoring the ball in transition and creating opportunities on the defensive end. Tamya finished with 21 points today in the win just a bit over her average of 19.4 ppg for the Lady Eagles.
Yarde showed some more scoring abilities today than in the past. She played a bit more off the ball at times and felt comfortable shooting the perimeter jumper. Devon was able to knockdown some mid-range jumpers and perimeter looks today for the Lady Eagles. She got the ball into the gaps and touched the paint at times for some easy looks for her teammates. Devon finished with a modest 9 points in the win.
Morgan Scott Morgan Scott 5'10" | PF Hilton Head Christian | 2024 State SC came on board this past season after starting off her career at May River HS. Scott a post player struggled a bit tonight finishing around the cup at times while finishing with 5 points and 8 rebounds in the win. Morgan can get to the foul line after going to work in the paint. She will play with her back to the basket and post-up.
Hutchinson, Yarde and Scott all run on the same Grassroots program H2 Lowco.
