New Year resolutions are a long standing tradition and a good way to self reflect on some improvements and changes that individuals may want to make. That includes me and my work. I always have to strive to be better. I’m making a resolution in 2023 to see the 5 post players. This could mean seeing them either more or for the first time.
We have her listed as small forward, but with her play so far this season I had to include her in this article. The East Jackson forward has taken her game to another level. She’s averaging 20 plus points per game and adding 7 boards. Kerley has added range to her jumper and is now a bona fide threat from beyond the arc and can stretch the floor. She’s also still been a force scoring in the paint.
Somers is a great example of players that can play positionless basketball. She’s a do-it-all energy player that will never be out hustled on the court. Somers has a nose for the ball as soon as the shot goes up. She reads the ball off the rim and chases it down with a huge sense of urgency. Inch for inch, she’s one of the toughest rebounders in the state. Somers is a must see player in her senior season.
Lundquist is a very intriguing prospect in the class of 2024. I saw her play at a PGH Circuit event and her defense really grabbed my eye. She brought energy and physicality to that end of the floor. So far this high school season, Lunddquist has shown the ability to rebound at a high level. I’m pretty sure I know of 3 double-double’s in points and rebounds in the month of December. That’s a statement start to the season.
Armstrong is a skillerd post player that I definitely want to see in the new year. She plays hard in the paint and is developing a next level game. Armstrong looks like she can be a double-double threat night in and night out for Grand Ledge this season. If she can keep up this level of play, college coaches will come calling.
Highlights
Kelly deserves more press clippings right now, I just really think the talent is there. She rebounds the ball well and her defense is already a huge strength. Kelly has excellent lateral movement in the paint. This allows her to slide over quickly and easily with post help. Kelly stays vertical on D and has a knack for blocking shots.
