The Eagles and Crusaders are two of the best teams in the Garden State, with both ranked inside NJ.com’s top 5 teams in the state. Not only that, but they are two of ESPN’s top 25 teams in the nation.
All told, it was expected to be a highly-competitive game of basketball, with top prospects and commits on both sides. That was until Prep Girls Hoops New Jersey’s Player of the Week, Hannah Hidalgo Hannah Hidalgo 5'7" | PG Paul VI | 2023 State NJ , had something to say about it.
You already know plenty about Hidalgo: our No. 1 player in the start for the Class of 2023, a Notre Dame commit and one of the most highly-touted prospects in NJ’s history.
A great performance was anticipated in the Blue Star Invitational in Philadelphia, but not quite the one she produced.
Hidalgo went on to score 41 points, at one point, having as many points as the entirety of Morris Catholic, leading Paul VI to an emphatic 76-44 win over the Crusaders.
There’s not really much to say about a player who balled out, scoring a 40-piece against a top-25 team in the country. Let’s not forget the fact that she also racked up six rebounds and seven steals in the process.
There were many fantastic performances over the course of the week, but for the importance and height of this game and the level of opponent, no one can come close to what Hidalgo did on the basketball court.
Keep your eyes peeled for many more Player of the Week stories to come out with Prep Girls Hoops New Jersey.
