Rachel George Rachel George 5'11" | C Centerville | 2023 State IA
The senior forward is one of eight players averaging over 20 points per contest in 3A. George is a kid who nearly averages a double-double and seems to find the ball on both ends of the floor. George does most of her damage around the rim but can step out and knock down some perimeter jumpers. I like that she has the versatility to hurt defenses in multiple ways and that she’s a physical kid who understands basketball is a contact sport. The Big Reds are a team around 500 record-wise, but George can hurt anyone on any given day.
The undersized guard is one of the better finishers around the rim. She plays with pace and is under control. Watching her attack the basket, she takes care of the ball, finishes with both hands, and is one of the more creative players finishing through and around traffic. Her athleticism is a game-changer, helps create turnovers in full-court presses, and helps her beat her initial defender off the dribble, which causes advantages when she attacks the basket.
Haidyn Hull Haidyn Hull 5'9" | SG Grinnell | 2023 State IA
The Grinnell wing shoots the ball a little funky, but she is one of the more dangerous shooters when she gets into a rhythm. She’s had multiple games in her high school career where she’s made north of five 3-pointers in a contest and has even gotten to eight on one occasion. We can look at percentages all we want and talk about how lethal 40% 3-point shooters are, but kids who can make them in bunches are equally as dangerous if given any space. She’s a kid who can turn a game upside down if teams don’t account for her.
Claire Lueken
The Walhert Catholic wing/forward does a little of everything to make her team successful. The sophomore leads the team in scoring, rebounding, and blocks and is near the top in assists and steals. The Golden Eagles have had a solid start to the year, and Lueken is a significant reason they are 6-3. Lueken has been effective and shot the ball well so far this season. However, her impact on winning goes beyond scoring and will continue to be more than her leading the team in scoring.
