I’ve written about West twice this season, and you can read reports on its players at the links below:
Here’s a look at the Tigers who stood out Friday night here:
The Drake commitment dominated this game, which otherwise was a defensive struggle. She scored 26 of her team’s 38 points and proved a difficult matchup for whomever West put on her defensively. She displays excellent form on her jumper and gets it off quickly. She doesn’t hunt shots and plays within the offense. She dribbles well with both hands and passes it precisely when she inevitably receives extra attention from the defense. She is long, which helps her rebound and defend multiple positions.

Another in a long line a freshmen who have impressed me this season. Finley boasts the same confidence and composure that’s prevalent throughout the group. She’s a bigger guard who often runs the point but also shows aptitude for playing off the ball. She possesses good physical strength and length for a ninth-grader, which helps her defend multiple positions. She led Cedar Falls in rebounds this game.
Gabie Hanks
Gabie Hanks
Hanks is a tough guard who stands out most on the defensive end, where she pressures the ball relentlessly in the half court. She knocked down one of three trey attempts on this night, showing nice form on the jumper. She handles and passes it well.

Hannam is another defensive force, complementing Hanks’ on-ball tenacity by being a presence in the lane. She makes it very difficult for opponents attempting to finish at the rim with her physicality, agility and long arms. She positions herself well for rebounds, particularly in the defensive end.
Burks plays her role very well. She teams up with Hannam for an imposing interior tandem that clogs up the lane. She sees the floor and passes well for a big. She sets solid screens and attacks the glass.
Johnna Dieken
Johnna Dieken
A heady senior, Dieken helps steady the squad on both ends of the floor. Like her teammates, she stands out on defense with good athleticism and understanding. She helps spread the floor on offense as a deep threat. She knocked down her lone 3-point shot in this contest.
