I’ve written about these programs before but took in this one because of the unusual day and location. It did not disappoint, the facility showing it could be a viable host for post-season matchups.
Below you can read reports from previous viewings of these programs in ’22-23:
Here are the student-athletes who stood out to me Sunday:
Grace Fincham Grace Fincham 5'10" | CG Iowa City West | 2026 State IA

This freshman impressed me when I saw her last month. She’s made great strides since then. She netted 10 points in this contest, knocking down 2 of 3 three-point attempts. She shows nice form and a quick release. She offers a strong inside game and hits the glass hard as well. She’s strong for a younger player, and that helps her compete on the defensive end.
Tessa Driscoll Tessa Driscoll 5'8" | SG City High | 2026 State IA

It will be fun watching Fincham and Driscoll play bigger roles for these two rivals as the years pass. And they’re already among the standouts in their respective programs. Driscoll is a tough kid that understands her position very well. She runs the offense like a veteran but also can knock down shots in bunches. She’s already a good on-ball defender and will get better there as she adds strength.
Tate consistently is the best player on the court when I watch West and that was no different this day. She controls the game on both ends of the court with an efficient offensive game and a tenacious approach to playing defense. She rebounds well for a guard and her length benefits her in multiple areas of the game.
Highlights
Palmer is an absolute bulldog on both ends of the court. She’s skilled and technically sound but doesn’t rest of those abilities. She goes hard. She shows picture-perfect form on her outside shot and is strong enough to finish at the rim through contact. She suffocates opponents with her on-ball defense and hits the boards very well for a guard.
Highlights
If there’s a rebound to be had, Prouty normally is in the vicinity of it, often securing it for her team. She pulled down a game-high 13 boards in this contest. She added 16 points on 5 of 6 shooting from the floor and hitting 6 of 8 from the foul line. She picks up points by working hard on the offensive glass and converting those caroms into points. She’s a strong interior defender.
Halle Larew

Larew played more in this game than she had in the previous two games I watched the Little Hawks this season. I’m intrigued. She boasts good size, length and agility. Prouty blocked her shot early in the game, but she showed grit by taking it back at her for a basket later in the contest. She looked like she belonged, and I’m interested to watch her grow as a player.
Pierce can get overshadowed by the high-level of talent on West, but she’s an important cog in the Trojans’ machine. She spots up nicely and knocks down shots when defenses double her teammates. She’s a hard-nosed defender, handles it well and passes the ball precisely.
