Here are some student-athletes who stood out Saturday:
Naughton is a tenacious competitor that goes full-speed at all times. She does so under control and with her head up to make plays for herself or others. She handles the ball expertly and breaks down defenses with her quickness. She’s creative in getting the ball to the rim against taller defenders, using her body well. She locks down on the ball defensively. She’s heading to Northwest Missouri State for track.
The 6-foot-1 junior patrols the paint for Indianola, making it difficult for opponents to cash in near the rim. She’s skilled for a big with an ability to face up or get her spot in the post. She’s effective shooting with either hand and finds open teammates when doubled.
Highlights
Zoey Belt
Zoey Belt
The future is bright for this 5-7 sophomore whether it be on the basketball or volleyball court. Belt is a high-end athlete with strong skills across the board. Her athleticism enables her to defend multiple positions and she goes hard after rebounds.
Brynn Bishop
Brynn Bishop
I like the fight in the 5-8 junior guard from Indianola. She plays hard all the time and makes her opponent work for everything. She’s a versatile performer who can help her team wherever it needs it at any given time. She benefits from good length and athleticism.
Lauren Olson
Lauren Olson
I’ve had the privilege of seeing some fine freshmen throughout this season and will add Olson to that list. She plays with a calmness and control that you don’t always see in a newcomer. She possesses a well-rounded skill set and has a high basketball IQ.
Locklear never disappoints. Defenses’ attempts at taking her away usually fail because her skill set allows her to contribute across the board. She led her team in assists in this game, passing efficiently out of double-teams. She offers a knockout, mid-range game that effectively complements her wide array of post moves.
One of the better shooters I’ve seen this season regardless of level or grade. Lower is a star in the making in basketball and volleyball. She’ll be one of the most recognizable names in those sports across the state before she finishes up.
