It’s extremely challenging to have an article with this topic and to not include Averie Lower of CCA High School. Lower ended her high school career as the best knock-down shooter off the catch in the entire state. Some will debate that but her career numbers as a whole don’t lie. Since Day 1 of Varsity basketball as a Freshman Lower has been someone to notice from the outside. Her mixture of size along with being able to score the ball at such a high rate was noteworthy then and it’s noteworthy today. It doesn’t take much but if she see’s one of her first shot fall during a contest, you better watch out. Honestly, even if she doesn’t get some of her first few shots to fall, you still have to respect her ability to make it rain from the outside because she is that good of a scoring threat off the catch.

will go down as one of the best shooters in Iowa Women’s High School Basketball history. Not only does Lower possess perfect footwork, hand-eye coordination, and shot form from any distance when shooting it – she also happens to stand around 6’0 with adequate athletic ability to pair along with that height. To give you an Idea, when CCA won the 4A Title a few years back, Lower put together a 50/40/90 season in her efforts as their starting SG. That’s 50% or better from the field, 40% or better from behind the three point line, and 90% or better from the free throw line, all in one season. That’s one of the hardest individual feats within the game of Basketball at any level. Those are the type of numbers that Lower can put up when she is playing confidently. This Winter she was automatic for her Senior campaign, making plays whenever and wherever she could. That ability is going to translate to ASU this Fall once she gets on campus. She just needs to continue to do her thing and worry about herself and the rest will be history.

making several three point shot attempts in the first quarter to give her Clippers team a lead for the rest of the game. We saw that again last night in this 4A Regional Championship. Lower scored 16 of her team’s first 19 points and she ended with 7 made three point attempts off the catch from deep. She also got a lot of action to go in by the bucket within some of their offensive sets, always posing a threat offensively to the River Queens on that end of the floor. One of the main keys for the Clippers moving forward will be their offensive production so although this was a fantastic showing by the ASU commit, she is going to need to show us some more over the next week if they plan on bringing home the 4A State Title.

to set the tone by letting a shot fly from anywhere behind the three point line. The crazy part? That shot is going to fall a majority of the time. It’s been so automatic with some of the Clippers sets this Winter that as soon as you see the play start to unfold, you should just start walking back down the floor the other way because it’s going to be cash with all the situational stuff not playing a factor. Things like how far it is away, if she is being contested, what type of screen it’s off of or anything in-between doesn’t phase her and it’s noteworthy. Lower is currently 38 for 76 this Winter from distance and her team is ranked #1 in the 4A Class with an undefeated record. Not a bad situation from the sound of it. At some point this Winter an opposing team will need to send 2 or 3 to defend this one if they really want to see what the Clippers are made out of and I can’t wait to see how they respond.

. Lower has been her usual self to start this Winter with her CCA crew. She has already posted a 40 point guard in one of her first contests on the season, along with some impressive numbers in the efficiency department to pair. If you are looking at Lower for what she is, it’s noteworthy. 6’0, athletic, has a quick trigger from deep with ultimate range, she can light it up both on the catch or off the dribble, and she is willing to post up anyone smaller that might end up guarding her defensively – creating easy buckets for herself and a problem for opposing programs in the middle of the lane. When you combined all of those things together, you get a heck of a player and that is why Lower holds onto the #3 spot in this Player Rankings Update.

was highlighted earlier this week in her team’s Game Report against Burlington High School but it’s important to note that Lower scored 40 points on 20 shot attempts in her efforts. Not only did she score 40, she also grabbed 8 rebounds as she crashed the boards hard on both ends. Lower is known as the 3-point specialist but in this contest she gave Burlington a little bit of everything on offense. She was actually more of a threat on the inside than anything else throughout this ball-game because of her natural height. Burlington didn’t have anything to match that. Whenever it was plausible Lower would catch the ball on the block or flashing in the middle against a zone, squaring up, making easy work of whoever was in-front of her. When the final buzzer sounded, it was a convincing victory for CCA. Their next test won’t be so easy though. They will have to take on Iowa City – West High in their next contest and that should be a good matchup across the board for both programs.

things in her first regular season game of her Senior season. Lower, the ASU WBB commit, killed Burlington all over the floor last night. Usually we hear about this prospect because of her dynamite shooting ability and she still had that yesterday but in reality she got a lot of her action in the middle of the lane as an offensive threat. Lower was finishing simple buckets in transition, she was scoring over smaller defenders in between the blocks at Will, and she did happen to knock down a handful of three point attempts. From the jump this game was a blowout and the reason for that was because of play from players like Lower. It was just too much firepower for Burlington to handle so in the end, CCA ended up getting the convincing victory.

we speak on her ability to shoot the basketball so it’s only right that she is also a very good free throw shooter whenever she gets to the charity stripe. Lower has an effortlessly stroke, picture perfect form, and a quick but accurate trigger when letting go of the rock. That goes for from anywhere on the floor, especially from the line. As a Junior Lower went 56-66, making 84.8% of her attempts. This is one of the better numbers for a prospect with over 65 attempts on the season as a whole. Hopefully this Winter she can stay aggressive and put together another memorable campaign. If she stays hungry at getting to her spots at the rim, she should post even better numbers for her last season on the high school hardwood.

of CCA has solidified herself as one of the Nation’s best SG’s over the past few season with what she has put together and now she is ready to show the state of Iowa what she can do for one last go-around. When you play against Lower, you have to be flawless defensively around screens and past the three point line. If not, she is going to be making a lot of shots. We saw that first hand on the National stage this Summer on the EYBL Circuit and I’m sure that was just the tip of the iceberg. If she can move off the ball more this Winter, watch out cause not many will be able to keep her contained for the entire duration of a contest.

of CCA High School and North Tartan EYBL AAU. Lower is the definition of a knock-down shooter. If she is given any space from behind the three point line, it’s usually going to be a good shot or it’s at least going to look like it out of her hands on the release. Lower can also handle a little bit, defend, and rebound but her best ability by far is letting it fly. This is someone that should get the Kyle Korver treatment in College. Every time she set’s a screen, she gets four in return and with that type of system – Lower would be able to thrive at a such a high rate. I’m not sure if the Sun Devils will look to play her early on in her career but if she shows her worth on the practice court, it’s going to be hard to keep her from receiving impactful minutes almost right away.
