INTRODUCTION: There are many talented sophomore guards in the state of Arizona. Here's a look at five of them for the class of 2025.

[player_tooltip player_id='558928' first='ISABELLA' last='WEBB'] - is a 5-5 sophomore combination guard who plays for Mica Mountain High School and is captain of her team. Through the first 22 games of the 2022-2023 season, she is averaging 12.2 points per game, 4.0 assists and 7.2 rebounds per game. She recently was selected as Player of the Game by Max Preps for her performance against Rio Rico High school. She had 23 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Isabella currently ranks 20th in the state with her assists average. Between November 2022 and mid-January 2023, she has been selected as Player of the Game on eight different occasions. She was recently nominated for Arizona Girls Basketball Player of the Week by scoring in double figures in four straight wins.

EVALUATION: Isabella is becoming a better player in every game she plays. Her shooting and driving ability have improved emphatically since the beginning of her freshman year of high school. The fact that she was nominated for Player of the Game honors eight different times (since last November) speaks for itself. Now halfway through her sophomore year, Isabella is ready to come into her own.

[player_tooltip player_id='558926' first='JAEDA last='BROWN']: is a sophomore 5-6 combination guard who plays for Saguaro High School. Her team is currently 15-5 through mid-January and she is averaging 8.9 points, 4.3 assists and 4.1 steals. For nearly two full seasons on the varsity, Jaeda is averaging 7.8 points, 3.5 assists and 3.8 steals. She has been named Player of the Game three different times by Max Preps. She was also nominated for the WaFd Arizona Girls High School Basketball Player of the Week as a freshman. For the Lady Sabercats, in a win over Marcos de Niza High School, she had a career high 16 points, shot 80% from the floor and also contributed four steals and two assists.

EVALUATION: Jaeda is becoming a well-rounded basketball player who is solid both offensively and defensively. Her shooting touch and her ability to defend have both improved since the beginning of her first year of high school. Jaeda is also becoming more of a leader, both on and off the court. She should be ready for a breakout season.

[player_tooltip player_id='558925' first='RAQUEL' last='WILSON'] - is a sophomore 5-7 combination guard who plays at Show Low High School. Midway through the 2022-2023 season, she is averaging 7.1 points per game and is shooting 52% from the floor, tops on her team. She is also averaging 2.0 assists and 2.3 steals. Raquel plays for the Lady Cougars in the always competitive Division 3A. Through mid-January, Show Low has a record of 8-4. Her Head Coach, Christie Francis, has her own philosophy about coaching. "We want to treat each and every player as family." She also believes that defense - more than offense - wins games.

EVALUATION: Raquel is an improving combo guard who plays at Show Low High School in a very tough division. Since the beginning of her freshman year, her defense has intensified and so has her ability to play in transition. Now a sophomore, she has become more of a team leader. Her ability to hit shots from beyond the arc has also improved significantly. Now a sophomore, she is only going to get better.

[player_tooltip player_id='558909' first='HAYLEY' last='FOSTER'] - is a 5-5 sophomore combo guard for Leading Edge Academy in Gilbert. She also plays on the LEA volleyball team. Through mid-January of 2023, she is averaging 9.5 points per game along with 3.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 4.5 steals per game. She is ranked 19th in the state in steals per game. As a volleyball player, she has participated in 140 sets and has 275 assists, 67 aces, 406 digs and 106 kills. As a freshman, Hayley was awarded Player of the Game honors by Max Preps a total of four different times. Leading edge Academy was a State Champion six times between 2012 and 2018.

EVALUATION: The fact that Hayley was selected as Player of the Game four different times as a freshman speaks volumes. She is an outstanding offensive player, but it is at the defensive end where she really shines. Her specialty is stealing the ball - she is ranked 19th in the state and fifth in her conference in that category. She has great anticipation on defense where she combines quick hands and quick feet. As a two-sport athlete, volleyball has helped improve her hand-eye coordination.

[player_tooltip player_id='558905' first='ALLISON' last='EVEN'] - is a 5-9 sophomore combination guard who plays for Salpointe Catholic High School. Captain of her team, the Lancers are currently 14-6. She is averaging 8.0 points per game and 4.4 rebounds. In a total of 40 games midway through her sophomore season, Allison averaged 5.2 points a game. From her first year on the varsity to mid-way through her sophomore season, she has improved her numbers in four different categories - scoring, rebounding, assists, and steals. Salpointe Catholic won the AIA State Championship in 2022. At the recent Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix, Allison was selected as one of the standout players for 2025.

EVALUATION: Allison is a combo guard on a loaded Salpointe Catholic team that won a State Championship in 2022. Her all-around game has improved tremendously, especially her shooting and defense. She also gets good penetration on offense off the dribble and is probably the Lancers' best player in transition. Only a sophomore, she should have a rewarding career at SCHS.
