The Lady Tigers are skilled! The Lady Tigers are talented! The Lady Tigers are a culmination of players that work as one unit! The Lady Tigers are simply put – impressive! – every player that plays on this team makes a difference when they step foot on the court but here are 4 players who stood out against Jenks on Friday night –
McKenzie Mathurin McKenzie Mathurin 5'10" | CG Broken Arrow | 2025 State OK 2025: McKenzie —- there isn’t much to say about this 2025 phenom that hasn’t already been said but watching her against Jenks was everything one would expect when watching a highly recruited player like Mathurin. She is confident in every aspect of the game; confidence is a trait built through preparation and training and anyone watching her knows, without question, that she has trained & is prepared. Mathurin shoots every shot with the knowlesge that she has practiced that shot time and time, again. She is nearly unstoppable 15 feet from the basket and her inside game is elite. She has an awareness of everything that is going on around her. She knows where her teammates are & she knows where all 5 of her opponents are. McKenzie has a high motor and there isn’t a possession where she isn’t hustling – sprinting down the court in transition and the first one back on defense. She is always ready – ready to shoot, ready to block out, ready to save the ball from going out of bounds, ready to get through screens and ready to defend on ball and on help side. But, this is all information that is known – she’s been doing this since I first watched her suit up and start for the Swift boys team during her middle school AAU season (and, she was dominating against the boys, too)! One possession that really stood out during the game against Jenks is when Mathurin and Marriccini were on a two on one break – Mathurin was two steps behind Marriccini but one step in front of the defender — Mathurin slowed her pace just a little, in front of the defender, to stop her from getting to her teammate! – this showed an alertness to her surroundings and selflessness – and, even though her stat line proves she is a next level player, her “team first” menatlity is another aspect that truly sets her apart from the rest.
Macy Marriccini 2025: Macy is a poised guard who handles the ball well in the open court and under full court pressure. She keeps a nice pace throughout the game and does an excellent job of keeping the offense going. Macy isn’t rushed to make unneccesary passes and does a good job of finding her open teammates – whether they are cutting through the lane, in transition or during a set play. Defensively, Macy is quick and moves well laterally – there were a number of possessions where she got a defelction or a steal. She keeps her opponent in front of her and is superb at getting the ball handler to fumble or pick up the dribble. Marriccini is definitely a player to keep an eye on in the years to come.
Taneya Howard Taneya Howard 5'11" | PF Broken Arrow | 2023 State OK 2023: Howard is a force and she is the player on the court that does a little bit of everything but the aspect of her game that flourishes is her rebounding. She is strong and if she is underneath the basket, she’s getting that board. She tracks the ball well and positions herself perfectly, to grab the rebound, every time. Howard has a nice touch around the rim and she knows how to play and finish through contact. She has stellar feet work and there is an aura of dominance that surrounds Howard when she is within 10 feet of the basket. Taneya runs the floor well and gets to the line a number of times throughout the game. Defensively, she is hard to get around and she is able to cut off the line whenever her opponents attempt to get inside. Howard is the player that will protect her teams goal – at all means possible. Northeastern Oklahoma A&M signed a good/tough ball player and it’ll be fun to watch her play at the next level!
Brooklynn Scarborough Brooklynn Scarborough 6'0" | SG Bixby | 2026 State OK 2026: Brooklynn had a solid all around game against Jenks. She handles the ball well and does a good job of attacking the basket. She isn’t afraid to get in the mix when rebounding and showed composure when being pressured. Defensively, she is a hustler and she is quick. She knows how to get the ball handler to turn numerous times – often times, forcing the ball handler to make an unwanted pass. Smitherman is only a freshman and with more varsity experience, she is well on her way to becoming a star for the Lady Tigers.
