Continue ReadingOn Monday February 13th the Chandler Lady Wolves traveled to Laveen to take on the Champions of Cesar Chavez in the opening game of the Girls 6A State Playoffs. This contest started off as a back and forth match as Chandler led after the first period 12-10. Chandler started out in the 2nd quarter by going on a 10-2 to run to build a 24-15 lead going into half-time. Chavez did not go away as the fought back with a 8-0 run of their own cutting the lead down to 24-23.
The 3rd quarter had more scoring as both teams began to find their groove offensively. Chandler hit a 3 at the buzzer to take a 38-30 lead into the 4th quarter. Chavez’s zone gave Chandler some problems in the beginning of the 2nd half but once they figured it out. Chandler began raining 3’s as they extended the lead to 48-37. Chavez fought to stay in the game but Chandler kept making shots as they won 62-47 to advance to the 2nd round of the 6A State Playoffs.

The young point guard displayed good ball handling ability as well as very good court vision. She didn’t shoot much but when she did she showed a soft touch and good form.

The freshman guard was scrappy despite being small in stature. Doromal was on the floor multiple times for loose balls. She had excellent form from the perimeter and pushed the ball with good speed when in transition.

Despite limited minutes off the bench Hurd provided energy and toughness for the Lady Wolves. She showed a good nose for the ball as she got multiple offensive rebounds and kept other plays alive by constantly being near the ball. She was not afraid to bang inside.

The sophomore wing showed a promising all around game. She did a little bit of everything as she is a good ball handler to go along with being athletic. She showed the ability to create separation on the offensive end with a variety of moves with step backs and side step jump shots.
Kaela Whitehair SG 5’5 2023 Chandler
She started off slow but absolutely lit it up in the 2nd half. She repeatedly ran behind the back of the opposing teams zone waiting for her opportunities. When her feet were set she knocked down corner 3 after corner 3. She shot it with extreme confidence and had a quick release that helped her get it off before the defense even thought about it.
Deshay Turner PG 5’5 2023 Cesar Chavez
The senior guard displayed very good quickness and was in attack mode on offense. On defense she had very active hands and constantly bothered the player that she guarded.

The shooting guard has good size and shot with very good form. She has a good feel for the game and never got outside of herself. She understands spacing on the floor and how to run to the open spots.
