Coolidge at ALA-Ironwood: Varsity Standouts

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>On Friday, February 3rd I attended the 3A Girls game with the&nbsp;<strong>ALA-Ironwood Warriors&nbsp;</strong>hosting the <strong>Coolidge Bears</strong>.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2>Here were some of the standouts from the varsity game</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='594250' first='Naylissa' last='Charles'] Coolidge</strong> <strong>(Pictured left)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A scoring guard who changes speeds well and can get downhill and has quick hands to bother her opponents on defense. She can hit the three in bunches and will score thru contact and make contested shots. She is a very good passer who smartly moves the ball to the open teammates and is a plus rebounder. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='594251' first='Alaysia' last='White'] Coolidge</strong> <strong>(Pictured right)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A shooting guard who moves with the ball and rebounds well. She has a nice hesi move to get to the rim and will score thru contact. She has very strong hands on defense to rip pockets of her opponents. She is very good in the passing lanes and will take it coast to coast. She blocks shots and stays with her opponents on defense. She really has a knack of touching the paint with a nice handle. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Kyra Johnson C 5'10 2023 Coolidge</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A true post player with skill and a huge IQ. She is a great passer off of the double team and plays physically in the paint. She is very strong with sticky hands to gobble up rebounds and is a very good outlet passer above her head to her guards. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Aniya White W 5'7 2023 Coolidge</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A strong wing forward can post up and has great strength from the wing position. She has a nice free throw stroke and cashed in about seven times. She is a good passer and play hard. She takes charges with her stronger body handling the contact and uses her body to her advantage. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Amaira Miguel CG 5'5 2025 Coolidge</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A scoring combo guard is smart off the pick and roll game and can pull-up from mid-range. She will catch and shoot from the three point line and throws up the court passes sharply to her teammates.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='594258' first='Cierra' last='Willis'] ALA Ironwood</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A scoring PG is the younger sister of Tony Willis who is a senior on the boys varsity team. She handles the ball well and will drive and kick it to a teammate. She has a pretty stroke from the three point line and good open court speed plus will score it with either hand in traffic. She has a polished runner in the lane and shows nice potential. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Shelby Walag CG 5'7 2023 ALA Ironwood</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The senior scoring combo guard can shoot the three and has quicker hands on defense. She can hit the mid-range jumper as well. She scored a couple give and go's for layups showing off her IQ. She is feisty on defense and can take it the length of the court for layups. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Maleah Tucker C 6'1 2023 ALA ironwood</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>An inside presence is strong and can score in the paint thru contact. She rebounds the ball at a good rate and is smart player to grab steals. She has a drop step in the post and gains position for offensive rebounds and will score or get fouled.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
