Take a look at Part 1 below!
What exactly do you say about the type of game that Blair played against Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard? She was just terrific, dropping in the range of 40 points on the night. Blair is a threat to score from basically anywhere on the floor. She went over the top for a flip in near the rim and flaunted a silky smooth pull up jumper that seemed almost effortless. Blair was able to get the ball in the paint, draw fouls, and get to the free throw line. She even used a pretty euro step that led to a bucket. Blair showed her range as well, nailing a triple from just inside halfcourt. Perhaps most impressive is her combination of positional strength, size, and ball skills. To me, Blair seems primed for success at the next level.
Utomi is such a special talent and it was on display in the game against Romulus. She goes so strong to her right that it’s tough for even a defender in good position to stop her. Her drives weren’t just strong that night, they were smooth as well. Utomi even showed the ability to manipulate a matchup and play with her back to the basket, which resulted in a spin move and a bucket. She was aggressive on defense forcing multiple turnovers and pushing the tempo off of them. Utomi went coast to coast multiple time off of steals.
Jones’ team may have been defeated, but you can still easily see the talent that she’s working with. She had 10 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals on the night. She paced her team offensively against a very good Arbor Prep defense. I was really impressed with her willingness to put her head down and go right at bigger players and not be fazed by it. That’s a good sign for the next level. Jones ran the floor well and even got a deflection just off of pure hustle. She has a lot of offensive tools to work with. I liked when Jones used a jab step to create space and was impressed with her crossover going from left to right.
Highlights
Teams are going to have to very wary of Taylor Wallace Taylor Wallace 5’6″ | PG Arbor Prep | 2024 State MI . She made it perfectly clear in this game that she cannot be given space or allowed to spot up from behind the arc. If you give her time to set her feet and a look at the bucket, there’s probably no need to crash the boards at that point. Wallace’s stroke looked to pure on every catch and shoot opportunity. She showed that she’s not just a shooter though, as she had an athletic take to the rim through traffic that led to an and 1.
I’ve been a big fan of Hehmann’s game for some years now and she backed up that belief in this contest. As is the usual it seems for her, she was super steady and a solid decision maker with the basketball. Hehmann has all the traits of a solid passer with the ball coming out of her hands strong and getting to where it needs to be. She was tough defensively in this game as well. Hehmann was able to provide some ball pressure that turned into turnovers. She has a big influence on the success of this team and when she plays steady and strong basketball like this, it makes Gabriel Richard a very tough matchup.
