Wausau West
It’s not often you find a 7-seed in D1 with multiple scholarship-level kids. The Warriors have a potent scoring punch in senior Lexie White Lexie White 5'11" | SG Wausau West | 2023 State WI , who could go out and score 20 points on anyone, and in a one-off setting, that makes her dangerous. Even though they haven’t been dominant in their conference this season, they are still a team who can compete with the best teams in their sectional, and if they beat a Superior, I wouldn’t be surprised.
Green Bay Southwest
Southwest has solid kids all over the floor who can hurt teams if they aren’t taken care of defensively. Addie Pytleski Addie Pytleski 5'9" Green Bay Southwest | 2024 WI has seen some of the most talented kids in the country and has gone toe-to-toe with them. She isn’t a kid who’s afraid of the moment. Although they are an 11-seed going into the tournament, they could win a game and push the 3-seed if things go their way. They were unlucky to get the 11-seed and are a threat in the opening weekend.
Muskego
The Warriors are another team who got unlucky in seedings this season and are a group that’s been one of the pleasant surprises throughout the season. I like how they’ve improved and pushed the likes of Arrowhead on occasion. Most of their team is young and makes young mistakes, but on occasion, when things go their way, they can play with anyone when they’re at their best. Nobody’s going to pick them to get to sectionals. If they aren’t a team that’ll make noise this year, watch them next season, they’re only getting better.
Rice Lake
Of all the teams in D2 to watch, it’s Rice Lake. They spent the season figuring out who they are as a team, and they’ve shown positive signs over the past month or two of figuring things out. The Sheplees are two of the most challenging covers in the state due to their physical attributes, and on a night when they’re playing to their capabilities, they can beat anyone, because when either Sheplee gets going, there isn’t a whole lot any single defender can do to slow them down, and that is frustrating.
