11 Bellarmine Prep 6 Davis
As far as seeding goes, Bellarmine Prep at number 11 is a tough one for any team that gets them in the tournament. It is Davis who gets them on Wednesday after falling to Tahoma in the regional round. Not a great draw and here’s why.
Part of an electric backcourt that is one of the best in the field. She opened with 30 points in the regional round. She is an exciting player to watch and has end-to-end quickness that helps manufacture points with the fast pace Prep likes to play.
Much like the other of the first name but different spelling. She offers some of the same qualities with her quickness and open floor play. They are both active on defense and that helps to facilitate the brand of basketball they thrive on. They like to run.
She offers some unique skills of her own. She can create for herself with athleticism and versatility. She is strong enough to be effective in the paint where she can show off her skills around the hoop. She is also a good shooter. Bellarmine Prep has options in the backcourt. It starts with the guards and this is the reason they are a dangerous team at the 11 seed.
Speaking of electric guards, she is one of the best scoring guards in the state. She shattered school records more than once and regularly scored near or over 30 points. Including a game of over 40. She can be a difference-maker in any game. She will need to be her usual self for Davis to win this one, with a lot of help from the supporting cast. Eastlake awaits the winner in the quarterfinals. I think we see an 11 vs 4 match-up Thursday.
7 Kamiakin 10 Bothell – Kamiakin was one of my sleeper picks for the tournament. They lost by 4 to Camas in the regional round which says nothing about them not being a sleeper.
The Memphis-bound guard brings a lot of talent and skill to the Kamiakin backcourt. She can pick a defense apart with her ability to get into the lane. She is athletic and has a knack for scoring when she does. She has plenty of options to dump it off or kick it out after meeting the secondary level of defense.
Highlights
She is one of those options that can be a beneficiary of the kick out. She is a skilled shooter with long-range. She also has good length and runs the floor well. These two are a tough combo and work well together. More options with length and versatility make Kamiakin a dangerous team.
Highlights
She is full of potential and has some of the best overall skills and versatility that you will find in the tournament. She can do it all and has some size and length to go with it. Bothell brings a balanced scoring attack but she is the most likely candidate to bring the most.
Kamiakin is too deep with talent and size. They move on to face a rare 8 seed winner of the regional round in Emerald Ridge. They upset number 1 Woodinville. I like Kamiakin in both these games.
12 Gonzaga Prep 5 Sumner – Sumner has the experience after advancing to the title game last year and placing second. Gonzaga Prep offers a great combo in the backcourt.
She offers up some serious game and basketball IQ. She is great at facilitating and has the size to go with it. Not to mention the athletic ability. An understanding of the game that is underrated.
These two are great together. Lucy might be a little better shooter but both are dangerous and versatile guards who carry much of the scoring load for Gonzaga Prep. I’m going with the upset in this one as well. The winner gets Tahoma and I’ll take the chalk in the quarterfinals.
9 Richland 1 Woodinville – After being upset by Emerald Ridge in the first round, things don’t get too much easier. Richland is a dangerous team led by the 3x Mid-Co MVP Kylee Fox Kylee Fox 5'11" | SF Richland | 2023 State WA . Woodinville has a plethora of good players.
A talented scorer and overall great player. She has a nice touch from mid-range and can score from all levels. She has great shot mechanics. She is always in control and keeps her eyes on the prize.
A perfect x-factor type of player. She bleeds versatility and has the ability to be a difference maker. She is long and can run the floor and finish. She also can score from all levels. Factor in Hailey Quiggle Hailey Quiggle 5’9″ | SG Woodinville | 2025 State WA from outside and you have a lot to worry about when facing Woodinville. A 1 seed awaits in Camas. How about a 1 vs 2 match-up in the quarterfinals?
