PREDICTIONS
Semifinals – Ann Arbor Huron vs. Dexter (3/1, 5:30PM, @ Ann Arbor Skyline)
Prediction: Dexter
Dexter won the previous 2 league matchups by 15 points each game. The Dreadnaughts are playing solid basketball and continue with a semifinal win.
Semifinals – Ann Arbor Pioneer vs. Ann Arbor Skyline (3/1, 7PM, @ Ann Arbor Skyline)
Prediction: Ann Arbor Pioneer (3/3, 7PM, @ Ann Arbor Skyline)
Pioneer won the most recent matchup convincingly and look to go 3-0 on the season against Skyline. I think they’ll do it with their outside shooting. Be aware though, because Skyline is well coached, playing solid basketball and coming off an upset of Dexter.
Championship – Dexter vs. Ann Arbor Pioneer
Prediction: Dexter
Dexter is playing really solid basketball this season led by a terrific backcourt. I’ve thought they were a district title team since I saw them very early in the season.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Let’s start with the fact that Williams can change a game with her defense. She plays strong denial defense in the paint and can force turnovers by getting in the passing lanes. Williams has the ability to make it very hard to get easy looks at the rim. On the other end of the floor, she can step behind the 3 point line and stretch the floor.
Perry has had an outstanding senior season and has been a great leader for this Dexter team. Her play in the backcourt has really helped elevate this Dexter squad. Perry has been a good old fashioned playmaker in the backcourt, hitting big 3’s and forcing turnovers on defense.
Brewer is going to be a very tough matchup for any team in the district. She’s that consistent advantage that a championship team needs. Brewer has a positional strength and power advantage that can pay dividends. She can also hit a 3 pointer at any time and if she gets hot from deep, Pioneer could be holding a trophy on March 3.
Perry has been a floor general and probably the most consistent scorer for Skyline for a couple years now. Skyline recently upset Dexter, so the ability to make a championship run is there. To do so, they will need Perry to win her matchups in the backcourt. The good news is, she can do that.
