While Pilgrim ultimately defeated Narragansett 35-19 for the title, both teams showed up with strong performances from star players on each side. Both teams are scheduled to compete in state tournament play-in games on Feb. 27. Who stood out, and who should you keep an eye on during the play-in round?
Grace Blessing
Grace Blessing
Grace Blessing has been putting up numbers on the offensive end all season. Her shooting abilities are obvious, but she also has excellent ball-handling and play-calling abilities. Her fast hands and defensive instincts complement her efforts on the offensive end. A sophomore, Blessing’s ceiling is high for the remainder of her high school career.
Amaya Coffie
Amaya Coffie
Amaya Coffie is a pest on the defensive end. Her quick hands and quick feet allow her to disrupt the flow of an opponent’s offense and lead to steals and transition opportunities for the Patriots. In the D3 title game, she had a remarkable eight steals. Offensively, Coffie can get up and down the court quickly with her athleticism and conditioning, outpacing opponents to the basket.
Gianna Ramos
Gianna Ramos
At six feet tall, Ramos is a disrupter in the paint. As a dual sport athlete (volleyball, basketball) Ramos has elite athleticism and the hops to pull down rebounds on both the offensive and defensive end. In the title game, Ramos pulled down nine rebounds en route to a Patriots win.
Dharma Parks
Dharma Parks
Parks is a physical paint presence who uses her height to rebound and create new possessions for her team. She works hard to box out opponents, and has a good back-to-the-basket game. On the defensive end, teams have to go through Parks to get points against the Mariners. Keep an eye out for Parks next year, her final high school season.
Faith Meade
Faith Meade
A tall wing, Meade has visibility over opposing defenses, and is a strong distributor on the offense end. She also has the ability to step into passing lanes on the defense end and grab defensive rebounds. A solid shooter, Meade is able to convert rebounds into easy layups or a pull-up jumper. During the title game against Narragansett, Meade chipped in a game-high 12 points.
