There were gutsy performances and clutch shots galore. I would highly encourage anyone that loves basketball to make it to Breslin for these games- you will get more than your money’s worth. Below are the five kids that I thought more than represented their town, their school, and the sport with skill and toughness.
Tess had to get Sixth Woman of the Final Four. She started early in the year when I watched but moved to the bench. She is an example of making the most of your time and completely changed the game. She didn’t put up a ton of points, but she was a catalyst on offense by finding open players for several assists and picked up some nice offensive rebounds and play saving hustle plays. Somehow, she even got a block on a taller player. Great game by a great kid.
Highlights
The Lansing Catholic did everything that they could to make Cadence’s life difficult, and the kid still balled out. Getting dribble penetration on a 1-3-1 is not the easiest thing to do, but Cadence used speed and slick handles to weave into spots to draw fouls and set up her teammates. She is one of the highest ranked kids in the state and showed that the ranking was justified. She plays great defense as well.
Lexi Boike

She was double teamed all night long, shoot all season long. Her footwork and ability to seal defenders is collegiate level and should be used for teaching purposes. While she was held to single digit points, she nearly picked up double digit blocks and rebounds. Her presence in the post made it so no Martian wanted to get into the paint.
Izzy Berthal

Izzy is the kid that everyone wants to have as a teammate. She is tough as nails and does every little thing to win games. She is overshadowed by Muth’s big three but they would have been lost without her. She had several offensive rebounds that kept possessions alive and hit timely buckets to snap Goodrich runs. Her effort on the defensive end doesn’t draw enough attention.
The younger place had a wonderful game for an underclassman. The Martians struggled to score all day, but she hit timely shots and was a calming presence on offense. She is a menace off the bounce and has legit three point range. She does her job on defense. This kid is someone to watch going forward.
