Some of the top talent in middle school were competing against one another, and many of these girls have already made a name for themselves nationally.
Let’s take a look at some of the standouts from day 1 of the event.
Carolina Hornets 8th
Sydney McGuire Sydney McGuire PG Mallard Creek | 2027 NC – 2027
McGuire had some nice moves with her ball fakes as she found the lane and attacked the basket. She always seemed to be around a loose ball coming up with it to push up the court, and she was doing a nice job setting the traps on defense. She was seeing the floor finding her open teammates filling the lanes for some fast break points.
Lenise Joseph – 2027
Joseph was dominant in the paint using power dribbles to get her shot up. She had a nice reverse layup underneath the basket showing off her ability to adjust going up for her points. She battled through contact making it count from the free throw line. She can certainly block shots, too.
Morgan Knox Morgan Knox 5'7" | SF North Meck | 2027 State NC – 2027
Knox saw the floor well finding her open teammates cutting hard up the court on fast breaks. She anticipated her opponents’ next moves well grabbing the steal and pushing it right up to the other end.
Crown Academy
Jakaila Gaskin – 2028
Gaskin was all over the paint constantly moving to get open, and she did a nice job using her length to deflect passes on defense. Her height is already a problem as she can battle against anyone in the paint, and she can can certainly block anyone’s shot. She hustled after loose balls, too, finding ways to save them before they went out of play. She made a nice pass to her teammate cutting up the court in transition.
Justice Alexander – 2028
Alexander reads her opponents well jumping in front of passes, especially when it involves her hustling back to stop fast breaks. She did a nice job bringing the ball up the court, and she was constantly relocating after she passed the ball. She can certainly shoot the ball well, too, creating her own space and knocking down the shot from deep with ease.
Christian Johnson Christian Johnson 5'4" | PG Cuthbertson | 2027 State NC – 2027
Johnson is a defensive threat tying up the ball with opponents trying to drive past her. She was constantly stripping the ball from her opponents and taking it the other direction scoring on fast breaks, and she knew exactly how to find her own open lane or draw defenders towards her to make the dish to her teammates.
Ashanti Taylor – 2028
Taylor showed off her range shooting the ball, and she showed a lot of patience executing a play to get her open for the shot. She did a nice job stripping the ball on defense and throwing the pass up the court to find the hands of her teammate. She fills the lanes well finding the openings to score some points on fast breaks.
Southeast Blitz 7th
Harper Cofer – 2028
Cofer does a nice job moving across the paint constantly flashing in and out to get the open look. She is ready to score some points off the entry pass, and she doesn’t back down from contact on the block. She hustles back on defense being ready to block a shot in transition.
Maddie Sipe – 2028
Sipe did a nice job attacking the basket grabbing steals and scoring on solo fast breaks. She could take it all the way or pull up in the paint showing off a nice floater. She stripped the ball away from her opponents when they tried to get around her, and she easily took that the other direction for her own points. She even showed her quick close out on the ball blocking a shot around the perimeter.
Team Curry Academy 7th
Janiyah Boyd – 2028
Boyd was effective at finding the opening and attacking the basket making some nice adjustments on her way up. She followed shots well going in for rebounds grabbing offensive boards. She hustled up the court being ready for a pass in transition to score some points.
Taelor Sutton – 2028
Sutton had a nice sequence of plays driving hard to the paint and putting up a floater. Then, she hustled back grabbing the steal on a fast break and pushed it the other direction as she found her open teammate up the court. She did a nice job grabbing a defensive rebound and exploding up the court for two points.
London Truesdale – 2029
Truesdale was driving hard to the paint putting up floaters through contact. She had a nice pass up the court threading the needle finding her open teammate for some fast break points. She was feisty on defense stripping the ball from her opponents.
Londyn Faison – 2029
Faison uses her length to get in the way of her opponents, and she reads the opposing offense well jumping into passing lanes. She did a nice job cutting up high in the paint and flashing down low showing off some nice midrange jumpers.
