Schmitt, becomes the fourth member of the 2024 class to head to Syracuse as she joins Keira Scott who announced her commitment to The Orange earlier this month. Alyssa Latham, the reigning Illinois Girls Basketball Player of the Year and Australian native Sophie Burrows are also committed to Syracuse from the Class of 2024. Schmitt is also the first player in the state of Florida to commit for this year’s junior class.
Schmitt chose Syracuse over Albany, Binghamton, Colgate, Fairleigh Dickinson, North Florida, NJIT and several others. Schmitt is a native of Staten Island, New York before moving to DME Academy prior to her junior season. Schmitt averaged 12.8 points, 2.4 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 3.1 steals per game this past season playing for DME Academy.
What Will Schmitt Provide At Syracuse?
Schmitt provides length as a two-way player and is a disruptor on the defensive end where she can create havoc for the offensive players. On the offensive end she is a perennial shooter from beyond the arc where she shot 36 percent from distance last season.
What Is Your Biggest Concern For Schmitt?
Schmitt’s biggest concern would be the lack of free throw attempts she got as a junior last season for DME Academy, only averaging 2.1 free throw attempts per game.
